Previous studies suggested that in order to perceive a stable image of the visual world despite constant eye movements, an efference copy of the oculomotor command is used to remap the representation of the environment in the brain. In two experiments, an inhibitory attentional component (inhibition of return-IOR) was used to examine whether remapping can occur also in the absence of eye moveme...

This paper provides evidence of the effects of urban wastewater discharges on the trophic state and environmental quality of a coastal water body in a semiarid subtropical region in the Gulf of California. The concentrations of dissolved inorganic nutrients and organic matter from urban wastewater primary treatment were estimated. La Salada Cove was the receiving water body and parameters measu...

BACKGROUND A high incidence of epileptiform activity in the electroencephalogram (EEG) was reported in children undergoing mask induction of anaesthesia with administration of high doses of sevoflurane for 5 minutes and longer. This study was performed to investigate whether reducing the time of exposure to a high inhaled sevoflurane concentration would affect the incidence of epileptiform EEG ...

Treatment of polluting discharges from abandoned coal mines in the UK currently produces ca 30,000 t y(-1) of hydrous iron oxides ("ochre"), for which there is no major end-use, but which has previously been shown to have potential for removing P from wastewater and agricultural runoff. The efficiency of ochre for P removal from wastewater was investigated in experiments at two sites in the UK:...

A power spectrum density (PSD) analysis was performed on electroencephalograms (EEG) of sleeping epileptic El mice and non-epileptic ddY mice. A respiratory peak at 3.13 Hz was detected in the EEGs of both categories. The PSD analysis revealed a peak at 8.59 Hz in the El mice, which was associated with interictal discharges. This peak may be helpful in diagnosing epilepsy.
