nerve entrapment at the wrist or hand that can cause motor, sensory or combined motor and sensory loss depending on the localization of entrapment along the canal. The most common etiological factor is the compression of the ulnar nerve at the wrist by a ganglion. However, other conditions such as anomalous musculotendinous arches, lipomas, diseases of the ulnar artery, fractures of the hamate,...
Clear cell sarcoma of the kidney (CCSK) is a highly malignant childhood tumor, distinguished from classic Wilms' tumor by its propensity to metastasize to the skeletal system. Authors described a case of CCSK from a 3-year-old boy in the right kidney, showing various histologic features, such as classic, epithelioid, trabecular, neurilemmoma-like, cystic and entrapped collecting tubular pattern...
Introduction: Schwannoma, or neurilemmoma, is a benign neoplasm of Schwann cells that is extremely rare in the soft palate. Herein we present a case of a soft palate schwannoma presenting with an ulcerated surface and purplish colour in a 12 year-old girl. This report also introduces a successful surgical technique for coverage of the defect left by surgery.
TERMINOLOGY Each axon cylinder is encased in a sheath of Schwann cells, and the tumour arising from this, the specific nerve sheath, is the Schwannoma or neurilemmoma. Groups of axon cylinders comprising a peripheral nerve are enmeshed in a non-specific sheath of fibrous tissue, and tumours arising from this non-specific nerve sheath are neurofibromata. In some nerve sheath tumours clear histol...
BACKGROUND We report a case of a 71-year-old woman with cerebral infarction due to occlusion of the internal carotid artery (ICA) caused by a neck tumor. CASE DESCRIPTIONS In 1998, the patient complained of mild hoarseness, and a diagnostic workup showed a cervical mass that was considered a benign neck tumor. In September 2000, she developed right-sided weakness. Diffusion-weighted MRI showe...
Neuromas or Schwannomas are extremely rare among tumors of the larynx. They are Schwann cell tumors that can be difficult to distinguish from neurofibromas. They present usually as supraglottic masses, since they may arise from the internal branch of the superior laryngeal nerve. Nuclear magnetic resonance imaging is the best diagnostic technique, conferring a high degree of suspicion. We prese...
