We consider methods for numerical simulations of variable density incompressible fluids, modelled by the Navier-Stokes equations. Variable density problems arise, for instance, in interfaces between fluids of different densities in multiphase flows such as appear in porous media problems. It is shown that by solving the Navier-Stokes equation for the momentum variable instead of the velocity, t...
In a variety of MEMS applications, the thin film of fluid responsible of squeeze-film damping results to be rarefied and, thus, not suitable to be modeled though the classical Navier-Stokes equation. The simplest way to consider fluid rarefaction is the introduction of a slight modification into its ordinary formulation, by substituting the standard fluid viscosity with an effective viscosity t...
We present a numerical algorithm for nano-rod suspension flows, and provide benchmark simulations of a plane Couette cell experiment. The system consists of a Smoluchowski equation for the orientational distribution function of the nano-rods together with the Navier-Stokes equation for the solvent with an orientation-dependent stress. The rigid rods interact through nonlocal excluded-volume and...
The macroscopic dynamics of a kinetic equation involving a model wave-particle collision operator of plasma physics is investigated. The Chapman-Enskog asymptotics is first considered in the framework of a hydrodynamic scaling. The obtained macroscopic model still involves a kinetic variable, the particle energy in the rest frame of the fluid, but shares similarities with the compressible Navie...
Abstract: The mass and momentum transfer phenomena in a compressible fluid represented by the Navier–Stokes equations are shown to convert into the Schrödinger equation for quantum mechanics. The complete Navier–Stokes equations render into an extended generalized version of Schrödinger equation. These results complement the Madelung’s (Zeitschrift für Physik 40 (3–4), pp. 322–326, 1926–1927) d...
We consider a semilinear equation arising from the Navier-Stokes equations { the governing equations of viscous uid motion { and related model equations. The solutions of the semilinear equation represent a certain class of exact solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations. Both the equation and our models have non-local terms. We will show that the non-locality will play an intriguing role for th...
We study the exponential stabilization of the linearized Navier-Stokes equations around an unstable stationary solution, by means of a feedback boundary control, in dimension 2 or 3. The feedback law is determined by solving a Linear-Quadratic control problem. We do not assume that the normal component of the control is equal to zero. In that case the state equation, satisfied by the velocity f...
the burgers’ equation is a simplified form of the navier-stokes equations that very well represents their non-linear features. in this paper, numerical methods of the adomian decomposition and the modified crank – nicholson, used for solving the one-dimensional burgers’ equation, have been compared. these numerical methods have also been compared with the analytical method. in contrast to...
The derivation of the Navier-Stokes equation starting from the Liouville equation using projection techniques yields a friction term which is nonlinear in the velocity. Using the results of multilinear mode-coupling technique for calculating equlibrium correlation functions, it is shown that the secondorder part of the term is non-zero, thus leading to an incorrect formula for the equation.
