Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the germ Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The group of bacteria in addition to tuberculosis that can cause disorders airways known as MOTT (Mycobacterium Other Than Tuberculosis), which sometimes interfere with enforcement TB diagnosis and treatment. (TB) a high burden for Indonesia, not only because itself, but also its resistant several first-line dr...

Background & objective:  Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major cause of death around the world. Bacillus Calmette Guérin (BCG) is the only vaccine used in TB prevention that has a protective effect in children, but its effectiveness declines in adults. Design and development of new vaccines is the most effective way against TB. The aim of this study was to design and construc...

We present descriptions of two human Mycobacterium microti infections: one of a patient with pulmonary disease and one of a patient with osteomyelitis of the hip. Both patients had acid-fast bacilli and a positive Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex PCR from clinical specimens, but mycobacterial cultures remained negative. The microbiological diagnosis was established by molecular methods.

As part of a series of investigations at Baba Baghi Leprosarium in lran, 44 long-treated leprosy patients were selected for our study. Samples of early morning sputum were obtained from each patient, examined by microscopy for acid-fast bacilli (AFB), and cultured for tubercle bacilli. These tests were negative, but the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for an insertion sequence believed to b...

Extrapulmonary tuberculosis accounts for approximately 10% of tuberculous infections; the musculoskeletal system is involved in a small number of these (10%). Skeletal tuberculosis is an indolent disease, and diagnosis may be delayed. Conventional methods are time consuming and have a low sensitivity rate. In recent years PCR-based protocols raised hopes as a reliable and fast diagnostic tool f...

Background and Objective: Drug resistance to tuberculosis is continuously increasing and is a significant threat to tuberculosis control programs because afew effective drugs are present against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Although isoniazid (INH) is the most effective drug against tuberculosis, resistance to this drug also develops readily. Mutations in katG, specially the Ser315Thr substituti...

We report a case of Mycobacterium bovis BCG vertebral osteomyelitis 1.8 years after intravesical BCG therapy for bladder cancer. We differentiated BCG from other Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex members by PCR analysis of deletion regions and started an appropriate chemotherapy regimen resulting in the remission of symptoms within 1 month.

We report a case of chest wall abscess caused by Mycobacterium bovis BCG that arose as a complication 1 year after intravesical BCG instillation. We identified M. bovis BCG Tokyo 172 in the abscess by PCR-based typing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex and analysis of variable number of tandem repeats data.

Background: Mycobacterium tuberculosis is the causative agent of tuberculosis (TB). Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine, is not effective in adults, therefore, many efforts have been made to produce an effective adult TB vaccine. The aim of this study was to develop a new tuberculosis DNA vaccine candidate encoding a recombinant HspX-PPE44-EsxV fusion antigen of M. tuberculosis. Methods: ...
