Of 162 multidrug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates from Taiwan, 60.5% were found to belong to the Beijing family on the basis of spoligotyping results. IS6110 restriction fragment length polymorphism fingerprinting showed genetic diversity among the multidrug-resistant isolates. Furthermore, 90.1% of the multidrug-resistant isolates had mutations in the rpoB gene, and 11 novel allel...

In Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB) was diagnosed for more than a third of new sputum smear-positive tuberculosis patients for whom treatment had failed. This finding suggests a significant risk for community-acquired MDR TB and a need to make rapid molecular drug susceptibility testing available to more people.

OBJECTIVES In vitro studies have shown good activity of linezolid against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, including multidrug-resistant strains. However, clinical experience with linezolid in tuberculosis is scarce. METHODS We report our clinical experience with five consecutive patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis infection treated with combination regimens that included linezolid. R...

In this paper, we present a mathematical model for the study of resistance to tuberculosis treatment using fractional derivatives in Caputo sense. This takes into account relationship between Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and diabetes differentiates cases MDR-TB (multidrug-resistant tuberculosis) XDR-TB (extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis). We basic results associated with behavior disease-free ...

Multidrug- and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis have emerged as grave threats to public health worldwide. Very few active drugs are available or likely to become available soon. To address these problems we revisited a classical observation, the applicability of phenothiazines as antimicrobial drugs. Within this pharmacological class we selected thioridazine, which is most efficacious an...

Previously it was shown that the antimicrobial protein granulysin possesses potent membranolytic activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Here we demonstrate that granF2 and G13, which are two short synthetic peptides derived from granulysin, inhibited the in vitro growth of clinical isolates of both multidrug resistant and drug susceptible strains of M. tuberculosis. Importantly, a particu...

Multidrug-resistant TB treatment is notorious for being costly, time-consuming, and ineffective. High levels of resistance to isoniazid rifampicin, with or without other anti-TB drugs, describe the microbial type tuberculosis known as multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. Thirdly, MDR-TB has been shown negatively affect mothers infants during pregnancy, labor, postpartum period. Objective: This Stu...
