A total of 520 overwintered sclerotia were collected from surface of soil under mulberry trees in six locations in Korea during February in 2006 and 2007. The collected sclerotia were tested for their germination in vitro and identified based on their morphological characteristics. Out of all sclerotia tested, 52.3% of the sclerotia germinated and produced two types of apothecia. The two types ...

A new quinone derivative, named epoxyquinophomopsin (1), was isolated from the EtOAc extract of the fermentation broth culture of an endophytic fungus Phomopsis sp. from Morus cathayana. Structure of compound 1 was determined mainly by NMR and mass spectral data. Biogenetically compound 1 can be regarded as a degradative product of the previously reported anthraquinone found in the fungus.

The antiatherosclerotic effect of aqueous leaves extract of Morus rubra was studied in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats fed with atherosclerotic (Ath) diet [1.5 ml olive oil containing 8 mg (3, 20,000 IU) vitamin D2 and 40 mg cholesterol] for 5 consecutive days. A short-term toxicity assessment was also conducted in healthy rats to examine toxic effects of the extract. Oral administration o...

The mulberry plant (Morus alba L.) contains abundant anthocyanins (ANCs), which are natural antioxidants. The aim of this study was to determine the ANC composition of Thai Morus alba L. fruits and to assess the effect of an ANC extract on blood glucose and insulin levels in male leptin receptor-deficient Zucker diabetic fatty (ZDF) rats. The major components of the ANC extract were identified ...

The southern North Sea holds the world's highest concentration of offshore wind farms (OWFs). Northern gannets (Morus bassanus), a species considered at high risk from OWF impacts, show strong seasonal peak there in November, but it is unclear which populations and age classes are most collision with turbines. We tagged adult juvenile largest colony (Bass Rock) reviewed two sources survey data ...

Authenticated ciphers rely on the uniqueness of the nonces to meet their security goals. In this work, we investigate the implications of reusing nonces for three third-round candidates of the ongoing CAESAR competition, namely Tiaoxin, AEGIS and MORUS. We show that an attacker that is able to force nonces to be reused can reduce the security of the ciphers with results ranging from full key-re...

Frugivorous birds in the Mediterranean basin may disperse seeds using two different feeding behaviours: swallowing the fruit whole or pecking pieces of pulp. Swallowing is the common behaviour of frugivorous seed dispersers in the Mediterranean basin (Herrera 1984a) and most of the fleshy-fruited plants in the region rely on this bird feeding behaviour to disperse their seeds (Herrera 1984b, 19...

Over the last decades the inhibition of plasma cholinesterase (ChE) activity has been widely used as a biomarker to diagnose organophosphate and carbamate exposure. Plasma ChE activity is a useful and non-invasive method to monitor bird exposure to anticholinesterase compounds; nonetheless several studies had shown that the ChE form(s) present in avian plasma may vary greatly among species. In ...
