Background and Objective: Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS) is a thrombotic microangiopathy that contains hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, renal failure and other organ involvement including central nervous system. Frequency of neurologic complications in patients with HUS is high and important cause of mortality. This study was performed to determine seizure disorders in term of acute neurolo...

The relation between surface area and body weight changes dramatically in infancy. In 31 healthy infants of 27 to 40 weeks' gestation, variations in glomerular filtration rate were reduced more than twofold by choosing glomerular filtration rate/kg body weight rather than glomerular filtration rate/m2. The former provides the most useful and practical index of renal function in the neonate.

INTRODUCTION The recent progress in medical technology causes the decreases in the mortality rate of neonates with their birth weight less than 1,000g. Many X-ray examinations of neonates in NICU are usually done for various body size. The Frequencies of radiation exposure per neonate are high compared to general diagnosis for adults. It is important for radiation protection to consider that th...

The incidence of congenital diaphragmatic hernia has been reported as 0.17-0.66 per 1,000 births. Despite advances in neonatal intensive care, congenital diaphragmatic hernia is associated with high mortality and morbidity. We report a neonate who was born with a left congenital diaphragmatic hernia and underwent surgical repair. The lack of ventilator flow response and flow cycling was identif...

A 34-year-old woman at 25 weeks 3 days was diagnosed with preterm labor and underwent an emergency cesarean section. The neonate did not cry or show any activity. The heart rate was 80 beats/min and the oxygen saturation on pulse oximetry (SpO2) was 77%. Immediately, positive pressure ventilation was delivered by T piece resuscitator, and then anesthesiologist performed endotracheal intubation....

Devices that use a spectral reflectance technique are used to non-invasively measure total bilirubin levels in neonates to monitor the development of hyperbilirubinemia. As a screening technique for the healthy neonate population, these devices provide instantaneous information, may reduce the need of heel-pricks on neonates, and indicate which neonates will need serum bilirubin measurement. Ev...

Maintaining optimal circulatory status is a key component of preterm neonatal care. Low-cardiac output (CO) in the preterm neonate leads to inadequate perfusion of vital organs and has been linked to a variety of adverse outcomes with heightened acute morbidity and mortality and adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. Having technology available to monitor CO allows us to detect low-output states ...

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) can be one of the most clinically challenging neonatal conditions. It occurs in 1 in 2-5000 live births in the UK with no predominance between the sexes. Herniation of abdominal contents into the thorax occurs, however it is the concomitant pulmonary hypoplasia and pulmonary hypertension that can be fatal. CDH was first described as an incidental finding at...

ABCA12: adenosine triphosphate binding cassette A12 HI: harlequin ichthyosis NICU: neonatal intensive care unit INTRODUCTION Harlequin ichthyosis (HI) is a rare autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis associated with mutations in the keratinocyte lipid transporter adenosine triphosphate binding cassette A12 (ABCA12), leading to disruption in lipid and protease transport into lamellar granules...
