N efforts to establish a correlation between the chemical structure of “nitrogen Imustards” and their tumour inhibitory activity, it was noted that the presence of two active groups per molecule was more favourable (HADDOW, KON and Ross 1948). Seeking an explanation for this difunctional requirement, the cross-linkage hypothesis was postulated ( GOLDACRE, LOVELESS and Ross 1949). This suggested...

Photolysis of dibenzyl ketone derivatives adsorbed on ZSM-5 zeolites produces persistent benzyl radicals (initiator radicals), which add to methyl acrylates (monomers) to generate persistent adduct radicals. Both initiator and adduct radicals are readily observable by conventional steady-state EPR spectroscopy at room temperature and are persistent for time periods ranging from seconds to many ...

In the last decades importance of UV curable formulations has increased continuously. Their fast curing speed, solvent-free polymerization conditions, and formation hard highly crosslinked photopolymer networks represent major benefits. Commercial resins generally consist multi-functional vinyl oligomers, photoinitiators, additives, reactive diluents. Mono- diluents serve as thinners to lower o...

The replication of the pT181 plasmid is dependent on the plasmid-encoded initiator protein RepC. We have previously shown that RepC protein has sequence-specific endonuclease and topoisomerase-like activities. In this paper we demonstrate that this initiator protein has sequence-specific DNA-binding properties. Based on filter binding of plasmid restriction fragments, RepC protein specifically ...

Mutations in DNA replication initiator genes in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes lead to a pleiotropic array of phenotypes, including defects in chromosome segregation, cytokinesis, cell cycle regulation and gene expression. For years, it was not clear whether these diverse effects were indirect consequences of perturbed DNA replication, or whether they indicated that DNA replication initiator p...

A trinuclear 3N-chelated monofunctional platinum complex, [Pt3(HPTAB)Cl3](ClO4)3 (HPTAB = N,N,N',N',N'',N''-hexakis(2-pyridylmethyl)-1,3,5-tris(aminomethyl)benzene), has been structurally characterized, which binds to DNA and demonstrates much higher potency against the murine leukemia cell line (P-388) and the human nonsmall-cell lung cancer cell line (A-549) than cisplatin.

Here we report the synthesis of monofunctional PEGylated amide ligands that were used to prepare bioactivable quantum dots of a 20 nm diameter with a controlled mean number of the covalently grafted ligands. They are stable in aqueous medium of high salinity including a large pH domain.

The TON_0887 gene was identified as the missing histidinol-phosphate phosphatase (HolPase) in the hyperthermophilic archaeon "Thermococcus onnurineus" NA1. The protein contained conserved motifs of the DDDD superfamily of phosphohydrolase, and the recombinantly expressed protein exhibited strong HolPase activity. In this study, we functionally assessed for the first time the monofunctional DDDD...

Computational protein design methods were used to predict five variants of monofunctional Escherichia coli chorismate mutase expected to maintain catalytic activity. The variants were tested experimentally and three active site mutants exhibited catalytic activity similar to or greater than the wild-type enzyme. One mutant, Ala32Ser, showed increased catalytic efficiency.
