Ti nanowire arrays (NAs) prepared by a facile and template-free hydrothermal method were used as three-dimensional (3D) current collectors for the electrodeposition of MnO2. The resulting Ti@MnO2 NAs exhibit remarkable electrochemical behavior with high specific capacitance, good rate performance and desired cycling stability.

After comparing our previous and newer results for numerous oxidative aromatic iodination experiments using various brands of active MnO2 as the oxidants,we recommend the use of a Chemical Manganese Dioxide (Aldrich CMD; 90 +% MnO2) as the oxidant of choice, since it is satisfactorily pure and chemically active, and is notably less costly than other options.

We present a one-step synthesis process for ultrathin non-crystalline MnO2 nanosheets. Their thickness is about 2 nm and the width varies from 5 to 20 nm. They induce a higher capacitance than zero-dimensional spheres or one-dimensional rods. When heat treated at elevated temperature MnO2 nanosheets partly grow into crystalline Mn2O3 rods.

We show here that the surface of MnO2 nanorods can be modified with aryl groups by grafting from aqueous and non-aqueous solutions of aryldiazonium salts. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy provides direct evidence for covalent bonding of aryl groups to MnO2 through surface oxygens.
