The second documented case of mediastinal ectopic tissue presenting as a mediastinal mass is reported. Previously reported cases of ectopic pancreatic tissue in the thorax are reviewed in an attempt to explain this anomalous development.
OBJECTIVE The mediastinum is the central portion of the thoracic cavity, housing numerous organs and harbouring a mixed bag of non-neoplastic and neoplastic lesions. Accurate diagnosis is essential owing to the widely variable therapeutic and prognostic implications. MATERIAL AND METHOD Cases of mediastinal masses were retrospectively reviewed from January 2011 till January 2016. Clinico-radi...
Background: Several types of neurogenic tumors can occur in mediastinum and commonly present as posterior mediastinal mass lesions. Generally they are categorized in to those arising from peripheral nerves or sympathetic ganglia. Schwannoma is the most common neurogenic tumor of this area. Generally they are presented as solid encapsulated lesions and are difficult to miss on radiology. Rarely ...
Bronchogenic cysts are relatively common mediastinal cysts. Here, we report removal of a rare paraoesophageal-type bronchogenic cyst by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery in a 52-year-old male patient. The defect of the oesophageal wall was successfully reinforced with an intercostal muscle flap.
We report a new case of a mediastinal mass in a 19-year-old patient corresponding microscopically to an association of unilocular thymic cyst and true thymic hyperplasia. Our aim is to highlight the absence of specificity of clinical and radiological findings and the necessity of a thorough sampling of the tumor in order to establish the diagnosis.

This location is rare, its first description in 1951 [3]. It is as serious because of its atypical presentation and complication risks associated with its location ie, mediastinal compression, superinfection and t...
Imaging studies, such as high resolution computerized tomography (HRCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) facilitate the evaluation of mediastinal masses. However, the definite characterization of such masses can be ascertained only after tissue sampling is obtained and analyzed. Some mediastinal masses, like bronchogenic cysts, can be misdiagnosed as solid masses or lymphadenopathy in imagi...
An asymptomatic 14-year-old boy presented with minor chest trauma. Chest X-ray showed opacity in the upper zone of the left lung. Further investigations with magnetic resonance imaging showed it to be a posterior mediastinal mass with a fistula to the lung, along with cystic changes in the left upper lobe of lung. Left upper lobectomy with excision of the mass was performed. Histological examin...
OBJECTIVE Iniencephaly is a rare neural tube defectwith consisting of a defect in the occipital bone, spina bifida of many vertebrae, and retroflexion of the head on the spine. In majorty of cases it is a le-\thal condition. METHODS We present the first case of iniencephalywith large bronchogenic cyst diagnosed prenatally. RESULTS At 19 week's gestation showed that fetalcardiac activity was ...
A case of a 65-year-old patient, showing dyspnea to strains and right side pain as main symptoms of an approximately 8 cm cyst in the pericardium. The physical, biochemical and electrocardiographic examinations did not evince any changes. The results from the thoracic radiography, CT scan and echocardiogram suggested pericardial cyst. Based on those clinical evidences, the patient was submitted...
