The F-ATPase of the bacterium Propionigenium modestum is driven by an electrochemical sodium gradient between the cell interior and its environment. Here we present a mechanochemical model for the transduction of transmembrane sodium-motive force into rotary torque. The same mechanism is likely to operate in other F-ATPases, including the proton-driven F-ATPases of Escherichia coli.

The two-step mechanochemical preparation of carbene-pyridine complexes of palladium and platinum is reported. The organometallic products, which represent a class of commercially available catalysts, are rapidly formed in excellent yield proving solvent-free synthesis to be a viable synthetic alternative even in the case of NHC-containing compounds.

A novel mechanochemical method was proposed to reconstruct quickly moisture-degraded HKUST-1. The degraded HKUST-1 can be restored within minutes. The reconstructed samples were characterized, and confirmed to have 95% surface area and 92% benzene capacity of the fresh HKUST-1. It is a simple and effective strategy for degraded MOF reconstruction.
