Outage detection and management has been a long-standing problem in power distribution networks. Outages are caused by protective devices closing off a part of the network to automatically isolate it. Usually, a short circuit fault will trigger this protective operation. We employ the term outage detection to denote the task of finding the status of the protective devices, and the term fault de...

In cooperation with the major propulsion engine manufacturers, the authors are developing and demonstrating a unique very high frequency (VHF) vibration monitoring system that integrates various vibroacoustic data with intelligent feature extraction and fault isolation algorithms to effectively assess engine gearbox and generator health. The system is capable of reporting on the early detection...

A new PMU-based fault detection/location algorithm for multi-terminal transmission lines is proposed in this paper, which works on the basis of synchronized voltage and current phasors received from PMUs installed in various terminals. The Clark transform (for transposed transmission lines), Eigen-values and eigenvectors theory (for un-transposed ones) are used to decouple 3-phase differential ...

vehicle driveline system and its working accuracy play an important role in the performance of car. the purpose of this study is to provide an appropriate mechanism for investigating, identifying and determining the position and size of defects in the vehicle power transmission system. this is based on the patterns of the residual signal, obtained from a simulated model of the system. neuro-fuz...

the paper presents a mathematical base modeling combined to modified-winding -function-approach (mwfa) for eccentricity fault detection of a round-rotor synchronous machine. for this aim, a 6-pole machine is considered, and the machine inductances are computed by mwfa in healthy and also under eccentricity fault. a numerical discrete-time method has been proposed to machine modeling in voltage-...

The inference of fault geometry from suprajacent fold shape relies on consistent and verified forward models of fault-cored folds, e.g. suites of models with differing fault boundary conditions demonstrate the range of possible folding. Results of kinematic (fault-parallel flow) and mechanical (boundary element method) models are compared to ascertain differences in the way the two methods simu...

This paper presents an analog fault simulation approach based on concurrent fault detection. By performing fault simulation with fault dropping, high computational effort is saved. The concurrent fault detection can be applied to most analyses and is compatible with other speedupprocedures. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented fault simulation procedure.

With the increasing demand for higher performance, safety and reliability of dynamic systems, fault diagnosis has received more and more attention. The observer-based strategy is one of the active research fields, which is widely used to construct model-based fault detection systems for technical processes which can be well modelled as linear time invariant systems. Fault diagnosis for nonlinea...
