Animals use a nervous system for locomotion in some stage of their life cycle. The nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, a major animal model for almost all fields of experimental biology, has long been used for detailed studies of genetic and physiological locomotion mechanisms. Of its 959 somatic cells, 302 are neurons that are identifiable by lineage, location, morphology, and neurochemistry in e...

Confident peptide identification is one of the most important components in mass-spectrometry-based proteomics. We propose a method to properly combine the results from different database search methods to enhance the accuracy of peptide identifications. The database search methods included in our analysis are SEQUEST (v27 rev12), ProbID (v1.0), InsPecT (v20060505), Mascot (v2.1), X! Tandem (v2...

Biorobotic Waterbird Flipper Locomotion Flipper-propelled locomotion is distinguished by a rhythmic, alternating movement of the flippers, resulting in wave-like motion that propels cormorant forward. In article number 2200380, Jinguo Huang, and co-workers propose processing framework to deliver technological basis for issue flexible flippers confronted with fluid pressures during underwater mo...

Abstract Until recently, most four-legged robots have lacked a feature that is found again and in nature—a tail. Studies of animal locomotion the laboratory indicate leaving out tails has been design drawback. In fact, research conducted by our lab at Virginia Tech shown an articulated robotic tail can effectively maneuver stabilize quadruped both for static dynamic locomotion.

The effectiveness of database search algorithms, such as Mascot, Sequest and ProteinPilot is limited by the quality of the input spectra: spurious peaks in MS/MS spectra can jeopardize the correct identification of peptides or reduce their score significantly. Consequently, an efficient preprocessing of MS/MS spectra can increase the sensitivity of peptide identification at reduced file sizes a...
