An in-depth review on a new ultrasonic micro-droplet generator which utilizes megahertz (MHz) Faraday waves excited by silicon-based multiple Fourier horn ultrasonic nozzles (MFHUNs) and its potential applications is presented. The new droplet generator has demonstrated capability for producing micro droplets of controllable size and size distribution and desirable throughput at very low electr...

Periodic scanning trajectories are designed with minimal harmonic content and fixed linear regions. While minimum harmonic content reduces vibration in mechanical scanners, fixed linear regions eliminate curvature in the scan area. Simulated and experimental results demonstrate less induced vibration than presently used techniques.

Nowadays, electromagnetic linear oscillatory actuators are used as vibration control devices because of their high controllability. However, there is a problem that thrust and vibration are small at a wide drive frequency range. In order to improve this problem, we propose a new linear oscillatory actuator that can easily change its own characteristics by using two sets of coils. Through finite...

Free vibration of laminated composite shells with cutouts are presented by a nine noded curved C0 finite element (FE) formulation developed by authors based on higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) using Sander's approximations. The proposed model satisfies parabolic distribution of transverse shear strains through the shell thickness and zero transverse shear stress conditions at shell ...

Abstract—The effect of non-homogeneity on the free transverse vibration of thin rectangular plates of bilinearly varying thickness has been analyzed using generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) method. The non-homogeneity of the plate material is assumed to arise due to linear variations in Young’s modulus and density of the plate material with the in-plane coordinates x and y . Numerical re...

Tire-road friction is the most important piece of information used by active safety systems. However, most conventional friction estimation/ detection methods are accurate only within the non-linear region. In addition, such methods require numerous sensors, such as yaw rate sensors, acceleration sensors, and steering angle sensors. In this paper, a friction estimation method using a tire vibra...

This paper deals with the finite element approximation of the vibration modes of a laminated plate modeled by the Reissner-Mindlin equations; DL3 elements are used for the bending terms and standard piecewise linear continuous elements for the in-plane displacements. An a priori estimate of the regularity of the solution, independent of the plate thickness, is proved for the corresponding load ...

in this paper, the free vibration response of a laminated composite rectangularplate supporting a rotating circular patch mass is studied. the two variable refined platetheory that employs only two unknown functions as against three in the case of simpleshear deformation theory is applied to define the third order displacement field of acomposite rectangular plate. the plate is considered to ha...

Estimation of the modal parameters of mechanical systems or structures is usually achieved by applying the well-known Frequency Response Function (FRF) method to experimental data obtained from free vibration after a shock excitation of the system or forced vibration using a variety of excitation signals. This method is however limited only to linear systems. The problem becomes more complex wh...

Free vibration of layered circular cylindrical shells of variable thickness is studied using spline function approximation by applying a point collocation method. The shell is made up of uniform layers of isotropic or specially orthotropic materials. The equations of motions in longitudinal, circumferential and transverse displacement components, are derived using extension of Love’s first appr...
