We introduce a new scoring method for calculation of alignments of optical maps. Missing cuts, false cuts, and sizing errors present in optical maps are addressed by our alignment score through calculation of corresponding likelihoods. The size error model is derived through the application of Central Limit Theorem and validated by residual plots collected from real data. Missing cuts and false...

We present a method based on the path integral Monte Carlo formalism for the calculation of ground-state time correlation functions in quantum systems. The key point of the method is the consideration of time as a complex variable whose phase δ acts as an adjustable parameter. By using high-order approximations for the quantum propagator, it is possible to obtain Monte Carlo data all the way fr...

The techniques of lattice gauge theory offer the possibility of accurate, non-perturbative calculation of the masses and matrix elements predicted by low-energy QCD. Of particular interest are the properties of the K-meson system and the lowenergy, weak matrix elements that are required to understand Kaon decays, especially those which enter the K → ππ amplitudes which violate CP symmetry. Pres...

By means of toric geometry we study hypersurfaces in weighted projective space of dimension four. In particular we compute for a given manifold its intrinsic topological coupling. We find that the result agrees with the calculation of the corresponding coupling on the mirror model in the large complex structure limit.

We present details of our evaluation of the NNLO QCD corrections to B(B̄ → Xsγ) in the heavy charm limit (mc ≫ mb 2 ). Results of this calculation have been essential for estimating O (α s) effects in this branching ratio via interpolation in mc.

I will discuss the recent progress toward computing few-body observables using numerical lattice techniques. The focus is overwhelmingly on the latest results from lattice QCD calculations. I present preliminary results from a lattice calculation of the central and tensor potentials between B-mesons in the heavy-quark limit.

The Strehl ratio for focusing into biaxially birefringent media with small birefringence is investigated. An analytical expression for the Strehl ratio as a function of the polarization and birefringence parameters is derived in the paraxial limit from a generalization of the scalar aberration theory. The expression agrees well with results of a numerical calculation.

We extend a previous calculation which treated Schwarzschild black hole horizons as quantum mechanical objects to the case of a charged, dilaton black hole. We show that for a unique value of the dilaton parameter a, which is determined by the condition of unitarity of the S matrix, black holes transform at the extremal limit into strings.

We formulate the BES/FRS equation as a functional equation in the rapidity space and perform its strong coupling expansion in the limit when ℓ = j/4g is kept finite. We obtain a result which is consistent with the previous calculations at tree level and one loop and which differs from the two-loop calculation in 0805.4615 by a term singular at ℓ = 0.

We describe a general method for calculating the infra-red limit of physical quantities in unitary quantum field theories. Using analyticity of Green functions in a complex scale parameter, the infra-red limit is expressed as a contour integral entirely in the ultra-violet region. The infra-red limit is shown to be the limit of the Borel transform of the physical quantity. The method is illustr...
