Abstract In this work, we investigate how the choice of key-expansion algorithm and its interaction with round function affect resistance Simon-like ciphers against rotational-XOR cryptanalysis. We observe that, among algorithms consider, Simon is most resistant, while Simeck much less so. Implications on lightweight design are discussed open questions proposed.
