In contrast to the gradual reduction in the number of locally transmitted malaria cases in China, the number of imported malaria cases has been increasing since 2008. Here, we report a case of a 39-year-old Chinese man who acquired Plasmodium ovale wallikeri infection while staying in Ghana, West Africa for 6 months in 2012. Microscopic examinations of Giemsa-stained thin and thick blood smears...

INTRODUCTION Mansonelliasis is caused by Mansonella ozzardi. It is widespread in the Amazon region, with a high prevalence. The common exam of thick blood smears stained with Giemsa shows low efficacy levels and has been an obstacle to diagnosing individuals with low blood parasitemia. METHODS In order to increase diagnosis efficacy, the PCR technique was improved. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS P...

The bibenzimidazol derivative 33258 Hoechst can be used to distinguish microfluorometrically between mouse and human nuclei in heterokaryons. This affords a quick and accurate alternative to autoradiography in the analysis of such heterokaryons. The 33258 Hoechst fluorescence patterns can be converted after irradiation to a Giemsa rendition of the differential staining.

One hundred-nineteen specimens were reviewed to determine whether or not there were histologic changes specific for Campylobacter pylori (CP), (Helicobacter pylori) mediated gastritis. Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E), Brown-Hopp, and Wright-Giemsa stained sections were examined independently by two pathologists for (a) the presence of acute cryptitis, (b) percent and degree of crypt involvement, an...

One of the most common bacterial infections that causes ophthalmia neonatorum is Chlamydia trachomatis, (C. trachomatis). Very few studies have been performed in Iran using both cell culture and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods to determine the prevalence of C. trachomatis as an etiological agent of ophthalmia neonatorum. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of neonatal chlamydial...

Toluidine blue staining was used to detect Chlamydia trachomatis inclusions in both McCoy and HeLa-229 cells from clinical specimens. This method was more sensitive than iodine staining for detecting C trachomatis inclusions in both McCoy and HeLa-229 cells and also more sensitive than Giemsa staining for detecting chlamydial inclusions in HeLa-229 cells. While its sensitivity for detection of ...

Result: Eleven male and 9 female patients with a mean age of 17.95 years were included in our study. The mean duration of lesions was 3.69 years. Most of the lesions (18 of 20 cases) were located on the face and others were on the limbs. Histologic study showed tuberculoid granulomatous inflammation with a variable ratio of histiocytes and lymphocytes without detection of leishman body. PCR was...
