The treatment of an acute left main coronary artery occlusion still poses a challenge. In this case report we present a 50-year-old patient with an acute occlusion of the left main artery. After a successful angioplasty without "stenting" due to the complexity of the stenosis the patient underwent a successful bypass surgery. We discuss the therapeutic options of acute left main occlusion regar...
Left main coronary artery aneurysm (LMCAA) is an uncommon coronary abnormality seen in 0.1% of patients during routine diagnostic coronary angiographies. The most common etiology is atherosclerosis in acquired cases. However, it can also be a congenital malformation. We present the case of a 26 year-old female with a large LMCAA. She was diagnosed with tetralogy of Fallot initially.
A 50 year-old man was admitted for elective percutaneous coronary intervention. After rotational atherectomy was performed, perforation of the second diagonal coronary artery occurred, resulting in cardiac tamponade. Emergency pericardiocentesis was performed and intravenous protamine was administered. After tamponading the coronary perforation with prolonged intracoronary balloon inflation, co...
Coronary artery aneurysm is one of the rarest anomalies that we see in our medical practice and they are mostly associated with obstructive lesions due to atherosclerotic changes. Management of these aneurysm patients (conservative or surgical repair) usually depends on obstructive lesions and associated symptoms. We are presenting a case of left main aneurysm measuring around 14 × 28 mm with o...
Left main stem coronary artery dissection is a rare cause of sudden death. This occurred in a previously asymptomatic 42-year-old white woman; clinical, arteriographic, and necropsy findings are described. Extrathoracic total body perfusion with isolated catheter perfusion of the dissected coronary artery using cold cardioplegic solution may be effective preoperative treatmemt.
Pentafurcation of the left main coronary artery (LMCA) is a rare finding. In anatomical studies the frequency of LMCA pentafurcation ranges from 1% to 3.4% [1]. However, to the best of our knowledge it has not been reported in angiographic studies. We describe a clinical case of a patient with such an unusual angiographic feature. A 67-year-old male patient with a history of arterial hypertensi...
