Humans, specially children become infected by ingesting either embryonated eggs from soil, dirty hands, raw vegetables, or larvae from undercooked organ of paratenic hosts such as chicken, cattle and sheep. Three clinical forms of toxocariasis are described includ...

Baylisascaris procyonis roundworms can cause potentially fatal neural larva migrans in many species, including humans. However, the clinical spectrum of baylisascariasis is not completely understood. We tested 347 asymptomatic adult wildlife rehabilitators for B. procyonis antibodies; 24 were positive, suggesting that subclinical baylisascariasis is occurring among this population.
To assess the effect of ivermectin on the morbidity caused by hookworm-related cutaneous larva migrans in patients in hyperendemic areas, we treated 92 patients (with 441 tracks in total) from Manaus, Brazil, with single-dose ivermectin (200 µg/kg). Four weeks later, patients had 60 tracks, and the associated morbidity improved significantly.
The fourth instar larva of Stilobezzia punctulata Lane is described for the first time and the one of Stilobezzia fiebrigi Kieffer is redescribed. They are illustrated and photomicrographed from material collected in different aquatic environments of the province of Corrientes, Argentina. Both species show features typical to carnivorous-predatory larva.
In the present paper the main aspects of the natural history of human infection by Toxocara larvae that occasionally result in the occurrence of visceral and/or ocular larva migrans syndrome were reviewed. The contribution by Brazilian researchers was emphasized, especially the staff of the Tropical Medicine Institute of São Paulo (IMT).
