We investigate theoretically the interplay of current-induced forces (CIFs), Joule heating, and heat transport inside a current-carrying nanoconductor. We find that the CIFs, due to the electron-phonon coherence, can control the spatial heat dissipation in the conductor. This yields a significant asymmetric concentration of excess heating (hot spot) even for a symmetric conductor. When coupled ...

We introduce a high sensitivity (1J/m) scanning microcalorimeter that can be used at high heating rates (10 °C/s). The system is designed using ultrathin SiN membranes that serve as a low thermal mass mechanical support structure for the calorimeter. Calorimetry measurements of the system are accomplished via resistive heating techniques applied to a thin film Ni heating element that also serve...

Writing information onto nanoscale magnetic oscillators as magnetic bits presents many challenges, some of which become more formidable as we pursue higherdensity information storage. It is true that the electric current densities needed at present to rotate the magnetization direction are lower than those needed in traditional semiconductor devices, where information has to be constantly rewri...

[1] Enhancements in F-region electron density and temperature and bottomside Pedersen conductivity caused by soft electron precipitation are shown to enhance the Joule heating per unit mass and the mass density of the thermosphere at F-region altitudes. The results are derived from the coupled magnetosphere-ionosphere-thermosphere model (CMIT) including two types of causally specified soft elec...

The aim of the present study is to address the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) radiative flow of an incompressible Jeffrey fluid over a linearly stretched surface. Heat and mass transfer characteristics are accounted for in the presence of Joule heating and thermophoretic effects. Series solutions by the homotopy analysis method are constructed for the velocity, temperature and concentration fields. ...
