The paper presents a new signature similarity measure and new efficient method of recognizing handwritten signatures. Each signature is represented as a set of features such as coordinates of signature points, pen pressure, and speed of writing. Proposed approach consists in dividing signature into windows and calculating similarity values between individual windows. The influence of the size o...

This paper reviews the use of measures of inter-molecular similarity for processing databases of chemical structures, which play an important role in the discovery of new drugs by the pharmaceutical industry. The similarity measures considered here are based on the use of a fingerprint representation of molecular structure, where a fingerprint is a vector encoding the presence of fragment subst...

recommender systems utilize information retrieval and machine learning techniques for filtering information and can predict whether a user would like an unseen item. user similarity measurement plays an important role in collaborative filtering based recommender systems. in order to improve accuracy of traditional user based collaborative filtering techniques under new user cold-start problem a...

Three coefficients of factor similarity were examined with regard to their behaviour within four sets of data. Two simple methods using Pearson r correlations and Tucker Congruence coefficients were compared with a more complex method given by Kaiser. Hunka and Bianchini (1971). Three of the data sets involved the use of 100 random data matrices, the fourth was that provided by the Eysencks’ wo...

Representation of semantic information contained in the words is needed for any Arabic Text Mining applications. More precisely, the purpose is to better take into account the semantic dependencies between words expressed by the co-occurrence frequencies of these words. There have been many proposals to compute similarities between words based on their distributions in contexts. In this paper, ...

In this paper we present a generic, language independent multi-document summarization system forming extracts using the cover coefficient concept. Cover Coefficient-based Summarizer (CCS) uses similarity between sentences to determine representative sentences. Experiments indicate that CCS is an efficient algorithm that is able to generate quality summaries online.

of high-quality vegetable and industrial oil. 9 RAPD primers, 6 AFLP primer combinations and 12 agro-morphological traits were used to assess the genetic diversity of 20 accessions of saf flower representing global germplasm variability. Jacquards’ similarity coef ficient were used to understanding the genetic relationships among ccessions, for AFLP and RAPD markers and Euclidian similarity coe...

The continuous occurrence of lithium-ion battery system fires in recent years has made fault diagnosis a current research hotspot. For series connected pack, the each cell is same. Although there are differences parameters such as internal ohmic resistance, relative change between cells small. Therefore, correlation coefficient voltage signals different can detect faulty cell. Inspired by this,...

We outline a method for measuring in an efficient way an overall degree of similarity between different leaf-labelled trees. In particular, we consider rooted trees, either unordered or ordered and not necessarily carrying the same labels. The trees to be compared are first represented in the form of matrices whose entries are in the interval [O,1] and the actual comparison strategy then relies...
