The isomerization of silylallene to seven of its isomers has been studied using ab initio molecular orbital theory. The energetics were obtained using quadratically convergent configuration interaction (QCISD(T)) with the 6-311G(d,p) basis set, at geometries optimized by second-order perturbation theory (MP2) with the 6-31G(d) basis set. Test calculations using multiconfiguration wave functions...

Herpes simplex virus type 1 DNA isomerization was studied by using a viral mutant, 5B8, lacking the unique SpeI site of its parent, SC16. In coinfected cells, SC16 genomic long segments flanked 5B8 genomes in all possible orientations with similar frequencies. Thus, recombination between progeny of different replication templates is sufficient to explain genomic isomerization.

Dinuclear ruthenium complex, with a bridging carbide and a hydride ligand, and methyltricyclohexylphosphonium chloride result from thermal decomposition of olefin metathesis catalyst, (IMesH2)(PCy3)(Cl)2Ru=CH2. Involvement of dissociated phosphine in the decomposition is proposed. The dinuclear complex has catalytic olefin isomerization activity, which can be responsible for competing isomeriza...

N-Alkyl imines of acenaphthenequinone are not stable because an isomerization occurs that releases part of the ring strain of the initially formed imine by changing the hybridization of one of the ring carbon atoms from sp(2) to sp(3); however, if an even more strained ring is present in the alkyl group, the isomerization becomes unfavorable and the compound is stable.

Proteins with multiple cysteine residues often require disulfide isomerization reactions before they attain their correct conformation. In prokaryotes this reaction is catalyzed mainly by DsbC, a protein that shares many similarities in structure and mechanism to the eukaryotic protein disulfide isomerase. This review discusses the current knowledge about disulfide isomerization in prokaryotes.

A triflic imide (Tf(2)NH) catalyzed isomerization of kinetically favourable silyl enol ethers into thermodynamically stable ones was developed. We also demonstrated a one-pot catalytic reaction consisting of (2 + 2) cycloaddition and isomerization. In the reaction sequence, Tf(2)NH catalyzes both of the reactions.

The use of non-ionic LC phases as anisotropic matrices for E/Z-isomerization of azo-guest molecules is often restricted due to limited solubilities and demixing effects. In this study we therefore employed an ionic liquid crystal (ILC) matrix to follow the photo-induced E/Z-isomerization of ionic mesogenic azobenzene guanidinium guests. The latter were prepared from 4-hydroxy-4'-(octyloxy)azobe...

The regeneration of 11-cis-retinal, the universal chromophore of the vertebrate retina, is a complex process involving photoreceptors and adjacent retinal pigment epithelial cells (RPE). 11-cis-Retinal is coupled to opsins in both rod and cone photoreceptor cells and is photoisomerized to all-trans-retinal by light. Here, we show that RPE microsomes can catalyze the reverse isomerization of 11-...
