The creation of effective bioscavengers as a pretreatment for exposure to nerve agents is a challenging medical objective. We report a recombinant method using chemical polysialylation to generate bioscavengers stable in the bloodstream. Development of a CHO-based expression system using genes encoding human butyrylcholinesterase and a proline-rich peptide under elongation factor promoter contr...

In the title compound, [Zn(C(8)H(16)NS(2))(2)], the Zn(II) atom is chelated by two S,S'-bidentate dithio-carbamate ions in a very distorted tetra-hedral geometry. The alkyl chains of the ligands are equally disordered over two sets of sites.

Reaction of 2-hydrazinocarbonyl-3-chloro-5-phenoxy-benzo[b] thiophene with different substituted phenyl isothiocyanate gave N-substituted arylthiosemi-carbazide derivatives (1a-h). 1,3,4-Thiadiazole derivatives (2a-h) were prepared by the cyclization of arylthiosemicarbazides (1a-h) with concentrated sulphuric acid. All the compounds were screened for their antitubercular activity against Mycob...

Abstract Silica nanoparticles with embedded fluorescent dyes represent an important class of markers for example in biological imaging. We systematically studied the various incorporation mechanisms xanthene 30–40 nm silica nanoparticles. An parameter was interaction dye matrix material, either by weak electrostatic or strong covalent interactions, which also has implications on stability fluor...

Nociceptors are sensory neurons that are tuned to tissue damage. In many species, nociceptors are often stimulated by noxious extreme temperatures and by chemical agonists that do not damage tissue (e.g., capsaicin and isothiocyanate). We test whether crustaceans have nociceptors by examining nociceptive behaviours and neurophysiological responses to extreme temperatures and potentially nocigen...
