In contrast with the common hematogenous dissemination of invasive aspergillosis (IA), we present case with a protracted course through anatomical planes in an immunocompromised adult male. The unusual clinical features and laboratory findings led to fungal genotyping and identification of the mold as Aspergillus viridinutans. It appears to be the first described case of IA caused by this agent...

This is a report of a patient with aspergillosis infection, which was thought to be a tumoral lesion during its investigation. This is not a common disease in Western countries, and this report should increase our awareness for differential diagnosis of nasal masses. Early diagnosis is desired in order to increase the survival rates.

Chronic pulmonary aspergillosis is a progressive debilitating disease with multiple underlying pulmonary diseases described. Here we report the association of chronic pulmonary aspergillosis and long term marijuana smoking in 2 patients and review the literature related to invasive and allergic aspergillosis.

Pulmonary involvement with Aspergillus fumigatus is varied and largely dependent on the patient's underlying pulmonary and immune status. Hypersensitivity reactions from inhalation of spores can cause acute allergic alveolitis, and bronchial colonization can cause allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA). The latter is found mainly in patients with asthma or cystic fibrosis. Mycetomas dev...

UNLABELLED BACKGROUND; Bone aspergillosis remains a rare but potentially devastating fungal disease. Although voriconazole is effective for invasive pulmonary aspergillosis, evidence of its efficacy for aspergillosis located in bone is limited. METHODS We report our experience with voriconazole in 4 cases of invasive bone aspergillosis. In addition, all cases of probable and definite bone asp...

BACKGROUND Voriconazole treatment increases early survival of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients with invasive aspergillosis. We investigated whether this survival advantage translates into an increased long-term survival. DESIGN AND METHODS This retrospective study involved all patients with an invasive aspergillosis diagnosis transplanted between September 1997 and Dec...

Aspergillus species have angioinvasive properties and can involve extrapulmonary organs by hematogenous spread from the lungs. However, renal involvement by Aspergillus is uncommon and is usually associated with the formation of abscesses. We report an unusual case of invasive renal aspergillosis presenting with extensive renal infarction in a 5-year-old girl with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. ...

BACKGROUND The frequency of invasive opportunistic mycoses has increased significantly over the past decades especially in immunocompromised patients. Invasive aspergillosis (IA) has become a major cause of morbidity and mortality among these patients. As bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid samples are generally useful specimens in the diagnosis of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA), this st...
