The incidence of sepsis, mortality due to sepsis, total mortality, and minor infections was evaluated in a group of 46 premature newborn infants who were treated with intravenous immunoglobulins. They were compared with an untreated control group. No significant differences were observed between the two groups.

Acquired von Willebrand syndrome may be related to plasma cell dyscrasia and can cause severe bleeding complications. Treatment, for example, with intravenous immunoglobulins may be indicated in selected cases. Physicians treating plasma cell dyscrasia have to be aware of bleeding complications in these patients, and clarification is necessary.

We report a rare clinical presentation of childhood Hodgkin lymphoma with immune thrombocytopenia. Diagnostic biopsy of the abdominal mass was performed after administration of intravenous immunoglobulins, steroids, and platelet transfusion. Concomitant thrombocytopenia complicated the whole diagnosis work up and the initial management of neoplasia.
