OBJECTIVE To compare the long-term outcomes of acute noise-induced tinnitus (ANT) and acute idiopathic tinnitus (AIT) to intratympanic dexamethasone (ITD) therapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients treated for tinnitus occurring immediately after noise exposure comprised the ANT group (n=20) and patients treated for idiopathic tinnitus comprised the AIT group (n=39). All patients were treated wi...

The aim of this study is to investigate whether, in addition to intratympanic steroid therapy, additional hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) sessions per day (twice a day for 5 days) is more useful than one session per day for 10 days in patients affected by severe and profound idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSNHL). A total of 55 patients affected by unilateral severe and profound...

Background: Dyslipidemia constitutes a serious public health concern globally. It has been established that excessive fructose intake results in dyslipidemia; however, whether dexamethasone aggravates or alleviates fructose-induced dyslipidemia is unknown. Thus, we examined the effects of dexamethasone on dyslipidemia and hyperuricemia in high fructose-taking Wister rats. Methods: Twenty male...

Background and purpose: Nowadays, the side effects of chemical drugs such as dexamethasone, as a steroidal anti-inflammatory factor, is considered on reducing male reproductive potential. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of pentoxifylline on sperm parameters and biochemical factors in mice treated with dexamethasone. Materials and methods: In this study, 24 adult male NMRI mice...

Concurrent hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) and intratympanic steroid application (ITS) are beneficial as salvage therapy for therapy-refractory sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL). The findings encourage further research on the treatment of noise-induced and idiopathic SSNHL with concurrent use of HBOT and ITS respecting also patients with long-term or therapy-refractory SSNHL.

BACKGROUND Hearing Preservation is becoming increasingly important in cochlear implantation as there is growing evidence that preserving the residual hearing, especially in the low frequencies in combination with the electric stimulation can significantly improve hearing and speech outcomes in noise. Besides the ongoing development of atraumatic implant electrodes and insertion techniques, the ...

BACKGROUND The efficacy of intratympanic steroid (ITS) treatment in sudden deafness (SD) remains controversial. To shed light on this issue, we performed a systematic review of randomized controlled trials to assess the overall efficacy of ITS therapy and to clarify whether it is more suitable as a first-line approach (primary treatment) or as a salvage treatment when traditional systemic agent...
