Effects of different deposition models on the calculated dose conversion factors from 222Rn progeny.
Regional lung deposition for radon progeny (size range, 1 nm to 1000 nm, monodispersed) has been determined employing Gormley-Kennedy, Ingham, Cohen-Asgharian and Yu-Cohen expressions (which describe diffusion deposition), together with Gurman and Cheng formulae for impaction and sedimentation, respectively. The deposition values have been compared with those obtained by using the algebraic exp...
BACKGROUND To investigate the organ dose, effective dose (ED), conversion factor, and the C-arm rotation angle effects on dose variations of abdominal C-arm cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) during transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). METHODS The organ doses and EDs for abdominal C-arm CBCT were retrospectively calculated according to a Monte Carlo technique for 80 patients. Dose variat...
OBJECTIVE This study assessed conversion factors utilized by physicians to transfer postoperative patients from intravenous opioids to oral controlled-release (CR) oxycodone and the subsequent analgesic effectiveness. DESIGN This was a multicenter, open-label, usual-use study of 189 hospitalized postoperative patients receiving opioid (usually morphine) intravenous patient-controlled analgesi...
The standard dose algorithm provided by Panasonic to be used with the four element UD-802 TLD badge is widely employed in Personnel Dosimetry Services all around the world. The algorithm was developed to satisfy the obsolete standard ANSI 13.11-1983 that was reviewed in 1993 (HPS N13.11-1993) and revised again in 2001 (HPS N13.11-2001) including differences in the NIST x-ray techniques used as ...
Pulmonary tuberculosis is a common infection worldwide. In the eastern part of Iran, fluctuations in tuberculosis prevalence are seen due to the migration of people from Afghanistan. The aim of this study was to evaluate the time of bacteriologic sputum conversion after treatment and affecting factors in those whose smear does not become negative. This study was carried out on 85 smear-positive ...
The ERICA Tool is a computerised, flexible software system that has a structure based upon the ERICA Integrated Approach to assessing the radiological risk to biota. The Tool guides the user through the assessment process, recording information and decisions and allowing the necessary calculations to be performed to estimate risks to selected animals and plants. Tier 1 assessments are media con...
Birds are important seed dispersers for fleshy fruits through their transportation of ingested seeds. The seeds of many species germinate faster and in greater proportions after passing through a digestive tract, although the effects of this passage vary amongst bird and plant species. Many factors determine the germination success of ingested seeds, such as seed scarification during the digest...
Enterotoxin of Clostridium perfringens was assayed and compared with toxicity in mice and erythemal activity in guinea pigs. Conversion factors were used to express these biological activities of crude enterotoxin in terms of weight of pure enterotoxin protein. One microgram of enterotoxin was equivalent to 3.41 erythema units and to 0.68 mouse median lethal dose.
The study assessed the radiological risks associated with the presence of natural and artificial radionuclides in the Bory Stobrawskie forests (PL). Using the conversion factors given by UNSCEAR and the measurements results of (232)Th series, (238)U series, (40)K, and (137)Cs specific activities in the 10-cm soil layer the values of absorbed dose (D) and the annual effective dose equivalent der...
