Hepatitis A has a worldwide distribution, and is a classic example of an infectious disease with an epidemiological pattern that closely relates to the level of socioeconomic development. As disease incidence continues to fall with economic development and improvement in living conditions, there is need for individual countries to periodically reassess the risk of hepatitis A to guide public he...
Elevated liver enzymes accompanied by Infectious Mononucleosis syndrome are widely seen in primary Epstein-Barr virus infection while acute symptomatic hepatitis without typical presentations of EBV is extremely rare. In the following report, we present a patient with acute isolated hepatitis due to laboratory confirmed Epstein-Barr virus.
Acute infectious hepatitis is by far the most common form of hepatitis. It occurs sporadically and in epidemics. The virus appears in the blood, intestinal contents and liver at various stages of the disease. It is usually transmitted by the faecaloral route. Unsanitary conditions foster its spread especially when human excreta contaminate food or water or where there is more intimate personal ...
Background: Hepatitis C is a major cause of chronic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma. Hepatitis C infection also has extrahepatic manifestations, including cryoglobulinemia and lichen planus. Lichen planus is a relatively common mucocutaneous disorder, and, due to its chronic pattern and increased incidence of malignancy, diagnosis and treatment of this disease are very important. The...

We evaluated the COBAS Ampliscreen hepatitis B virus (HBV) test using standards, seroconversion panels, consecutive donations, and samples from patients with abnormal alanine aminotransferase and chronic hepatitis C. Specificity was 100% and sensitivity was 20 IU/ml. In seroconversion panels, HBV DNA was detected up to 4 to 18 days before HBsAg, suggesting that this assay is useful in shortenin...
A 52-year-old woman developed Guillain-Barré syndrome 10 weeks after immunization with recombinant hepatitis B vaccine. Common infectious causes of GBS were ruled out. The temporal relationship between GBS and hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccination was suggestive of a vaccine-induced cause. The possible mechanisms of this very, rare complication are discussed.
Hepatitis B, a common infectious disease of liver, is transmitted by blood and body fluids like semen and vaginal fluid that carry hepatitis B virus (HBV). In chronic infection, medical care is required to decrease possibility of cirrhosis and liver cancer. In the present report, the hepatoprotective effect of an Echinacea purpurea preparation (Echiherb®) has been described...
Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a zoonotic pathogen, causing infectious hepatitis in man. Pigs and wild boars are the natural asymptomatic reservoirs, while disease humans could be either or evolve hepatitis. In Europe, an increasing number of human infections from HEV have been reported over last few years. The main route transmission through contaminated food, by direct indirect consumption raw un...
