Based on the FISHER-MULLER theory of the evolution of recombination, an argument can be constructed predicting that a recessive allele favoring recombination will be favored, if there are either favorable or deleterious mutants occurring at other loci. In this case there is no clear distinction between individual and group selection. Computer simulation of populations segregating for recessive ...

With the industrial and scientific developments, many new optimization problems are needed to be solved. Several of them are complex multi-modal, high dimensional, nondifferential problems. Therefore, some new optimization techniques have been designed, such as genetic algorithm (Holland, 1992), ant colony optimization (Dorigo & Gambardella, 1997), etc. However, due to the large linkage and cor...

A shared lane keeping assistance system supports the driver in the steering task. In contrast to an autonomous system, the shared system works in parallel with the driver by applying an additional torque on the steering wheel. This means the system and the driver perform the steering task in cooperation. As the driver is still part of the control loop a driver model is required to predict the s...

In machine learning and its risk-sensitive applications (e.g. medicine, engineering, business), the reliability estimates for individual predictions provide more information about the individual prediction error (the difference between the true label and regression prediction) than the average accuracy of predictive model (e.g. relative mean squared error). Furthermore, they enable the users to...

After a selection of bright children from the schools of the district in which the University is located had been made by the Social Service Department of the Laboratory of Psychology, the children reported to the Psychological Clinic for physical and mental tests and measurements. The weight, height, head and body dimensions were taken at this time, and certain other data were secured, such as...

A growing body of research suggests that personality characteristics relate to physical health; however, this relation ship has primarily been tested in cross-sectional studies that have not followed the participants into old age. The present study utilizes data from a 70-year longitudinal study to prospectively examine the relationship between the adaptive defense mechanisms in midlife and obj...

Farm assurance schemes are an inevitable and essential part of the UK livestock industries as they provide valuable assurances to the market over food safety, nonhuman animal welfare, and environmental concerns. However, there is potential for welfare assessment within such schemes to extend beyond existing resource-based parameters to include outcome-based observations of the behavior and phys...

We improved the approximation of the model of the wormhole generated physical universe constructed by Choudhury and Pendharkar. We show here that the negative pressure of the unphysical wormhole can generate the right physical condition to explain the correct sign of the deacceleration parameter q0. The negative sign of q0 implies an accelerating universe.

Mobile technology has become increasingly common in today’s everyday life. However, mobile payment is surprisingly not among the frequently used mobile services, although technologically advanced solutions exist. Apparently, there is still a lack of acceptance of mobile payment services among consumers. The conceptual model developed and tested in this research thus focuses on factors determini...

In recent ‘learning to forecast’ experiments with human subjects of Hommes, et al. (2005), three different patterns in aggregate price behavior have been observed: slow monotonic convergence, permanent price oscillations and dampened price fluctuations. These different aggregate outcomes are at odds with a representative agent who is fully rational or employs a single adaptive learning rule. We...
