PURPOSE To examine the effects of anodization (surface coating) and reduction of internal Morse taper surface area on the reversal torque values of Straumann ITI dental implants and abutments. MATERIALS AND METHODS Eighty ITI solid screw implants were mated with corresponding 5.5-mm solid abutments. The assemblies were divided into 4 test groups of 20 specimens. All abutments were torque tigh...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the amount of deformation from compression caused by different diameters of Morse taper implants and the residual deformation after load removal. Thirty Morse taper implants lacking external threads were divided into 3 groups (n = 10) according to their diameter as follows: 3.5 mm, 4.0 mm and 5.0 mm. Two-piece abutments were fixed into the implants, and the...

Surgical treatment is usually indicated for the management of Neer type IIB fractures of the distal third of the clavicle. These unstable injuries have shown a rate of nonunion that oscillates around 30% to 45% when managed conservatively, and surgical strategies often require a second operation for implant removal. We describe an arthroscopic-assisted technique for the treatment of Neer type I...

Zygomatic implants have been used for rehabilitation of the edentulous atrophic maxilla as an alternative to bone grafting for almost two decades resulting in satisfactory clinical outcomes. However, the patients with edentulous atrophic maxilla treated using this technique may present serious complications that could put the prosthetic restoration at risk. Four cases are reported in this paper...

An 84-year-old woman developed high intraocular pressure with a shallow anterior chamber 2 months after an extracapsular cataract extraction with posterior chamber lens implant. The condition did not respond to peripheral iridectomy and removal of the implant but was treated successfully with YAG laser capsulotomy and anterior hyaloidotomy.

Breast augmentation with implants is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures. The goal of the operation is to increase the size, shape or fullness of the breast. It is accomplished by placing silicone, saline or alternative composite breast implants under the chest muscles, fascia or the mammary gland. This type of operation is no exception concerning the occurrence of com...

Eighteen Kuntscher-type intramedullary rods were obtained after human implantation periods ranging from 1 to 23 years. A clinical evaluation, metallurgical and chemical analyses of each implant were performed. Idiopathic, implant-related pain was the most common reason for removal, but was not related to extent of implant corrosion. When classified as early versus contemporary material compo...

We report the first case of Kytococcus schroeteri implant-related septic arthritis and osteomyelitis, identified by phenotypic tests and 16S rRNA sequencing, which responded to implant removal and doxycycline. 16S rRNA sequencing was useful for the accurate and rapid identification of the organism as it exhibited three different colonial morphologies in vitro.
