In this paper an object-based classification framework is introduced for the automated monitoring of changes in urban areas. Morphological scale space filtering is embedded in the processing procedure constraining qualitatively the multi-level segmentation and thus, the structure of object hierarchy. The elegantly simplified images provide a more compact and reliable source in order to generate...

The chapter describes visual classification by a hierarchy of semantic fragments. In fragment-based classification, objects within a class are represented by common sub-structures selected during training. The chapter describes two extensions to the basic fragment-based scheme. The first extension is the extraction and use of feature hierarchies. We describe a method that automatically construc...

We present a novel scheme for object-based video sequence representation using appearance spaces. Our scheme enables fully automatic extraction of semantic video objects for a class of sequences, and their supervised organization in an object-class hierarchy. The hierarchy can be used for generic classification of query video objects, and transcoding using semantics of video objects.

This paper proposes a new methodology to automatically build semantic hierarchies suitable for image annotation and classification. The building of the hierarchy is based on a new measure of semantic similarity. The proposed measure incorporates several sources of information : visual, conceptual and contextual as we defined in this paper. The aim is to provide a measure that best represents im...

This paper introduces a new image representation for scene recognition, where an image is described based on the response maps of object part filters. The part filters are learned from existing datasets with object location annotations, using deformable part-based models trained by latent SVM [1]. Since different objects may contain similar parts, we describe a method that uses a semantic hiera...

An assignment of wait-free consensus numbers to object types results in a wait-free hierarchy. Herlihy was the rst to propose such a hierarchy, but Jayanti noted that Her-lihy's hierarchy was not robust. Jayanti posed as open questions the robustness of a hierarchy he deened and the existence of a robust, wait-free hierarchy. In this paper, we examine a number of object parameters that may impa...

The recognition of deformable objects by the means of digital image processing is a crucial, but widely unsolved problem yet. In many industrial and other areas there is a strong need to automate processes which take place in a changing or not completely controllable environment. However, technical systems are presently characterised by fixed operational procedures and little interaction with t...

Generic services and interface navigation in object oriented systems can be formulated in terms of specific typecasting sequences over narrowing and widening operations. With examples, the commonality and difference between the two are brought out with reference to typecasting. Consequences of specific typecasting sequences to their implementation in a distributed environment are highlighted. 1...
