To evaluate the contribution of intracellular peptidases to the growth of the 14-amino-acid (aa) auxotroph Lactobacillus helveticus CNRZ32, single- and multiple-peptidase-deletion mutants were constructed. Two broad-specificity aminopeptidases (PepC and PepN) and X-prolyl dipeptidyl aminopeptidase (PepX) were inactivated through successive cycles of chromosomal gene replacement mutagenesis. The...

BACKGROUND AND AIM The progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) likely involves a 'multiple hit' mechanism. We hypothesized that partial hepatectomy, a procedure performed frequently in patients with NAFLD, would accelerate the progression of disease. METHODS C57BL/6JolaHsd mice were fed a choline-deficient L-amino acid-defined diet (CD-AA) or a choline-sufficient L-amino acid...

The influenza A virus polymerase complex, consisting of the subunits PB1, PB2, and PA, represents a promising target for the development of new antiviral drugs. We have previously demonstrated the feasibility of targeting the protein-protein interaction domain between PA and PB1 using peptides derived from the extreme N terminus of PB1 (amino acids [aa] 1 to 15), comprising the PA-binding domai...

Nitro-arachidonic acid (NO2-AA) is a cell signaling nitroalkene that exerts anti-inflammatory activities during macrophage activation. While angiotensin II (ANG II) produces an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and mitochondrial dysfunction in renal tubular cells, little is known regarding the potential protective effects of NO2-AA in ANG II-mediated kidney injury. As such, t...

Ingestion of herbal remedies containing aristolochic acids (AAs) is associated with the development of a syndrome, designated aristolochic acid nephropathy (AAN), which is characterized by chronic renal failure, tubulointerstitial fibrosis, and urothelial cancer. To distinguish the component(s) of AA responsible for these varied toxic effects, we administered 2.5 mg/kg/day of AA-I or AA-II for ...

an experiment was conducted to reevaluate the digestible lysine requirement of arian male broilers by comparing the performance of chicks fed different levels of cottonseed meal (csm) on a total amino acid (aa) versus a digestible aa basis. four hundred and thirty two (432) arian male broiler chicks were allotted to 18 treatments with four repli-cates of six chicks each in a completely randomiz...

A cDNA clone encoding a taste-modifying protein, miraculin (MIR), was isolated and sequenced. The encoded precursor to MIR was composed of 220 amino acid (aa) residues, including a possible signal sequence of 29 aa. Northern blot analysis showed that the mRNA encoding MIR was already expressed in fruits of Richadella dulcifica at 3 weeks after pollination and was present specifically in the pulp.

Quantitative traits locus for milk production traits has been described on centromeric end of bovine chromosome 14. Reports name the acyl coA: diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT1) gene as a potential candidate gene with dinucleotide substitution (AA to GC) in exon VIII which causes the change of lysine to alanine in amino acid (K232A).The aim of the present study was to estimate the frequency...

Neuropeptide hormones produced by neurosecretory cells in the central or peripheral nervous systems regulate various physiological and behavioral events during insect development and reproduction. PBAN/Pyrokinin is a major neuropeptide family, characterized by a 5-amino-acid C-terminal sequence, FXPRLamide. This family of peptides has been implicated in regulating various physiological function...

Octahedral chiral-at-metal Ir(III) complexes exhibit excellent structural stability and stereoselectivity in asymmetric synthesis. Selectively oxidative dehydrogenation of amino acids could be achieved by exploiting such as chiral templates. The obtaining stable imine can then utilized nucleophilic additions to generate corresponding amine compounds. In this study, a conveniently synthesized [Λ...
