In this work we describe an efficient model for the simulation of a two-phase flow made of a gas and a granular solid. The starting point is the two-velocity two-pressure model of Baer-Nunziato [1]. The model is supplemented by a relaxation source term in order to take into account the pressure equilibrium between the two phases and the granular stress in the solid phase. We show that the relax...

In this paper we review some recent results for a model for granular flow that was proposed by Hadeler & Kuttler in [20]. In one space dimension, this model can be written as a 2 × 2 hyperbolic system of balance laws, in which the unknowns represent the thickness of the moving layer and the one of the resting layer. If the slope does not change its sign, the resulting system can be analyzed by ...

Internet coordinate systems have emerged as an efficient method to estimate the latency between pairs of nodes without any communication between them. They avoid the cost of explicit measurements by placing each node in a finite coordinate space and estimating the latency between two nodes as the distance between their positions in the space. In this paper, we adapt the Vivaldi algorithm to use...

A mixture of coalesced generalized hyperbolic distributions (GHDs) is developed by joining a finite mixture of generalized hyperbolic distributions with a novel mixture of multiple scaled generalized hyperbolic distributions (MSGHDs). After detailing the development of the mixture of MSGHDs, which arises via implementation of a multidimensional weight function, the density of our coalesced dist...

In crime analysis, law enforcement officials have to process a large amount of criminal data and figure out their relationships. It is important to identify different associations among criminal entities. In this paper, we propose the use of a hyperbolic tree view and a hierarchical list view to visualize criminal relationships. A prototype system called COPLINK Criminal Relationship Visualizer...

In this paper, we investigate the global existence of solutions to a hyperbolic-parabolic model of chemotaxis arising in the theory of reinforced random walks. To get L2-estimates of solutions, we construct a nonnegative convex entropy of the corresponding hyperbolic system. The higher energy estimates are obtained by the energy method and a priori assumptions.

The hidden metric space behind complex network topologies is a fervid topic in current network science and the hyperbolic space is one of the most studied, because it seems associated to the structural organization of many real complex systems. The PopularitySimilarity-Optimization (PSO) model simulates how random geometric graphs grow in the hyperbolic space, reproducing strong clustering and ...

We consider the matrix model associated with pp-wave background and construct supersymmetric branes. In addition to the spherical membrane preserving 16 supersymmetries, one may construct rotating elliptic membranes preserving 8 supersymmetries. The other branch describes rotating 1/8 BPS hyperbolic branes in general. When the angular momentum vanishes, the hyperbolic brane becomes 1/4 BPS pres...

Generative network models play an important role in algorithm development, scaling studies, network analysis, and realistic system benchmarks for graph data sets. A complex network model gaining considerable popularity builds random hyperbolic graphs, generated by distributing points within a disk in the hyperbolic plane and then adding edges between points with a probability depending on their...

Damped wave diffusion effects during oxygen transport in islets of Langerhans is studied. Simultaneous reaction and diffusion models were developed. The asymptotic limits of first and zeroth order in Michaelis and Menten kinetics was used in the study. Parabolic Fick diffusion and hyperbolic damped wave diffusion were studied separately. Method of relativistic transformation was used in order t...
