In-house production or outsourcing are important strategic decisions for planning production and capacity in business organizations. Outsourcing to overseas suppliers is often associated with risk with respect to the quality of the products. Hence, we developed a multi-stage stochastic programming model that takes into account the uncertainty involved in the production of the quality of outsour...

Handling uncertainty in natural inflow is an important part of a hydroelectric scheduling model. In a stochastic programming formulation, natural inflow may be modeled as a random vector with known distribution, but the size of the resulting mathematical program can be formidable. Decomposition-based algorithms take advantage of special structure and provide an attractive approach to such probl...

For the problem of selecting p items with uncertain (interval) objective function coefficients so as to maximize total profit (maximization over uniform matroid) we introduce the r-restricted robust deviation criterion or the r-robust solution for short. We seek solutions that minimize the r-restricted robust deviation. This new criterion increases the modeling power of the robust deviation (mi...

In cloud computing, providing an optimal resource to user becomes more and more important. Cloud computing users can access the pool of computing resources through internet. Cloud providers are charge for these computing resources based on cloud resource usage. The provided resource plans are reservation and on demand. The computing resources are provisioned by cloud resource provisioning model...

Hub location-allocation problems are currently a subject of keen interest in the research community. However, when this issue is considered in practice, significant difficulties such as traffic, commodity transportation and telecommunication tend to be overlooked. In this paper, a novel robust mathematical model for a p-hub covering problem, which tackles the intrinsic uncertainty of some param...

The robust spanning tree problem is a variation, motivated by telecommunications applications, of the classic minimum spanning tree problem. In the robust spanning tree problem edge costs lie in an interval instead of having a fixed value. Interval numbers model uncertainty about the exact cost values. A robust spanning tree is a spanning tree whose total cost minimizes the maximum deviation fr...

The stochastic linear programming problem with recourse has a dual block angular structure. It can thus be handled by Benders decomposition or by Kelley's method of cutting planes; equivalently the dual problem has a primal block angular structure and can be handled by Dantzig-Wolfe decomposition| the two approaches are in fact identical by duality. Here we shall investigate the use of the meth...

proposing a robust designed facility location is one of the most effective ways to hedge against unexpected disruptions and failures in a transportation network system. this paper considers the combined facility location/network design problem with regard to transportation link disruptions and develops a mixed integer linear programming formulation to model it. with respect to the probability o...

This document shows how to model two-stage stochastic linear programming problems in a GAMS environment. We will demonstrate using a small example, how GAMS can be used to formulate and solve this model as a large LP or using specialized stochastic solvers such as OSL-SE and DECIS. Finally a tailored implementation of the Benders Decomposition algorithm written in GAMS is used to solve the model.

Recent work have exhibited specific structure among combinatorial problem instances that could be used to speed up search or to help users understand the dynamic and static intimate structure of the problem being solved. Several Operations Research approaches apply decomposition or relaxation strategies upon such a structure identified within a given problem. This paper presents how Benders dec...
