This study evaluates the influence of marshmallow extract administration (Althaea officinalis L.) at 0.0 (control), 2.5, 5, and 10 g on the activity of certain hepatopancreatic enzymes such as α-amylase, lipase and trypsin in common carp (Cyprinus carpio) during 60 days. Feeding the fish with diets enriched with marshmallow extract had no effects on the satiety index and hepatic index in these ...

Post-heparin plasma in the rat contains triglyceride lipase activity of both hepatic and extrahepatic origin. The lipase released into rat hepatic perfusate by heparin has been characterized in an assay containing Triton X-100, albumin, and [14C]triolein. Fatty acid release was linear for 120 min over a wide range of enzyme concentrations at 27” and 37”. The pH optimum was 9.5. Enzymatic activi...

Efforts to express lipase in the periplasmic space of Escherichia coli have so far been unsuccessful andmost of the expressed recombinant lipases accumulate in the insoluble cell fraction. To evaluate the role ofnative and heterologous signal peptides in translocation of the lipase across the inner membrane of E. coli, the lipase gene (btl2) was cloned downstream of the native ...

conclusions results of this study could be used to find suitable targets for inverse metabolic engineering and site-directed mutagenesis to achieve stable and high-level extracellular lipase production in y. lipolytica and other yeasts. results two nucleotide substitutions were found in the extracellular lipase lip2 orfs of y. lipolytica u6 mutant strain compared to the wild-type strain. in thi...

CONTEXT Dietary fibers have been associated with a reduced incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in epidemiological studies; however, the precise mechanisms are unknown. OBJECTIVE The objective of the study was to evaluate the efficacy and site of action of an insoluble dietary fiber derived from maize (HAM-RS2) in improving insulin resistance in subjects at increased risk of type 2 diabetes ...

Apolipoprotein C-I (apoC-I) has been proposed to act primarily via interference with apoE-mediated lipoprotein uptake. To define actions of apoC-I that are independent of apoE, we crossed a moderately overexpressing human apoC-I transgenic, which possesses a minimal phenotype in the WT background, with the apoE-null mouse. Surprisingly, apoE-null/C-I mice showed much more severe hyperlipidemia ...

UNLABELLED Genome-wide array studies have associated the patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing 3 (PNPLA3) gene polymorphisms with hepatic steatosis. However, it is unclear whether PNPLA3 functions as a lipase or a lipogenic enzyme and whether PNPLA3 is involved in the pathogenesis of hepatic insulin resistance. To address these questions we treated high-fat-fed rats with specific antisen...

INTRODUCTION The aim was to assess associations among PCOS and NAFLD, the lipoprotein lipase polymorphism gene, and metabolic disorders in PCOS. MATERIAL AND METHODS In 184 women with PCOS and 125 healthy, premenopausal volunteers, sex steroids, lipids, glucose, insulin, aminotransferases, free androgen index (FAI), HOMA-IR and E2/T were calculated. Hepatic steatosis was determined by ultraso...

It was found that the inhibition of the lysosomal acid lipase activity by rat apolipoprotein A-I (apo A-I) was increased with the degradation of apo A-I by the lysosomal proteases. We demonstrated that apo A-I could effectively inhibit the acid lipase activity even in the presence of the lysosomal proteases using the hepatic lysosomal fraction.
