The formation of a thin film by (i) the slow penetration of a gas bubble into a liquid filled tube, (ii) the withdrawal of a planar substrate from a liquid filled gap, is investigated theoretically for the cases of both Newtonian and shear thinning liquids; the latter conforming to either a power law or Ellis model. Formulated as a boundary value problem underpinned by lubrication theory, the a...
We have developed anew technique for the application of microtracer technology to the on-site assessment of microingredient uniformity in diets for feedlot cattle. The influence of dietary forage (12 vs 24%) and molasses levels (6, 12, 18, and 24%) on the efficiency of recovery of microtracer (33 g/ton) using this new technique was compared with that of chromic oxide (87.4 g/ton) and laidlomyci...
This paper presents a spectroscopic study on doping of Vanadyl pathalocyanine (VOPc) by [6,6]-phenyl C61 butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM). The films are characterized by UV/Vis/NIR spectroscopy. A drastic increase in the absorption coefficient has been observed with increasing dopant concentration. Optical properties of VOPc:PCBM films deposited by spin coating technique were studied in detail....
We present the fabrication and characterization of an artificial crystal structure formed from a thin film of silicon that has a full phononic band gap for microwave X-band phonons and a two-dimensional pseudo-band gap for near-infrared photons. An engineered defect in the crystal structure is used to localize optical and mechanical resonances in the band gap of the planar crystal. Two-tone opt...
Abstract In this chapter, we aim to explain the chromic phenomena observed in “soft crystals”. Accordingly, basic principles for comprehending fundamental photophysical properties of molecular monomers, such as electronic absorption spectra and luminescence properties, are introduced. Moreover, dimers crystals explained terms intermolecular interactions excited states.
Previous fiber-shaped solar cells are based on polymeric materials or dye-sensitized wide band-gap oxides. Here, we show that efficient fiber solar cells can be made from semiconducting nanostructures (e.g. CdSe) with smaller band-gap as the light absorption material. We directly grow a vertical array of CdSe nanowires uniformly around a core metal wire and make the device by covering the top o...
