In this study, we investigated numerically the plasmon response of a dimer configuration composed of a couple of split and concentric Au nanoshells in a complex orientation. We showed that an isolated composition of two concentric split nanoshells could be tailored to support strong plasmon resonant modes in the visible wavelengths. After determining the accurate geometric dimensions for the pr...

We report on strong excitonic luminescence in wurtzite GaN at 3.309 and 3.365 eV ~T56 K!. These lines lie well below the band gap and are found commonly in layers grown by different techniques and on different substrates. From detailed photoluminescence investigations we find small thermal activation energies and a very weak electron–phonon coupling. The photoluminescence behavior under hydrost...

Solutions o f G aC l3 in various ethers have been studied by 7lG a N M R spectroscopy. <S7lG a data indicate tha t the predom inant species in d iethylether and tetrahydrofuran solutions are G aC l3 0 (C 2H 5) 2 and G aC l3 -2 0 C 4 H g, respectively. However, in monoglyme solution disso ciation occurs and the product crystallizing from the solution is [c7's-G aCl2(m onoglym e)2]G aC l4 as dem...

We calculate the spin relaxation time of conduction electrons in n-doped bulk gallium arsenide. We consider the Elliot-Yafet spin-relaxation mechanism, driven by Coulombic-impurity and electron-electron scattering. We find that these two scattering mechanisms result in relaxation times of equal order of magnitude, but with disimilar dependences on doping density and temperature. Our theoretical...

Blue phosphorene (BlueP) is a graphene-like phosphorus nanosheet which was synthesized very recently for the first time [Nano Lett., 2016, 16, 4903-4908]. The combination of electronic properties of two different two-dimensional materials in an ultrathin van der Waals (vdW) vertical heterostructure has been proved to be an effective approach to the design of novel electronic and optoelectronic ...

The reconstruction and surface morphology of gallium nitride (0001) and (000 ) surfaces are studied using scanning probe microscopy and reflection high-energy electron diffraction. Results for bare GaN surfaces are summarized, and changes in the surface structure and morphology due to co-deposition of indium or magnesium during growth are discussed.

It is a diagnostic problem to distinguish thymic rebound or rebound thymic hyperplasia from thymic malignancy, but it is frequently made more difficult because most patients have had previous malignancies. Recently we evaluated a six-year-old girl with thymic rebound after chemotherapy for lymphoma, by both gallium-67 and thallium-201 scans. On gallium-67 scan, intensive uptake was seen in the ...

Since 1994, the Applied Physics Laboratory has been collaborating with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center to develop photodetectors based on gallium nitride and aluminum gallium nitride material produced in the Milton S. Eisenhower Research and Technology Development Center. This article describes the results of our collaboration and highlights the development of gallium nitride photodetectors wi...

The Gallium Nitride (GaN) Light-Emitting-Diode (LED) bottom refection grating simulation and results are presented. A microstructure GaN bottom grating, either conical holes or cylindrical holes, was calculated and compared with the non-grating (flat) case. A time monitor was also placed just above the top of the LED to measure both time and power output from the top of the LED. Many different ...
