We report on a spectroscopic confirmation of narrowband-selected [O II] emitters in Abell 851 catalogued by Martin et al. (2000). The optical spectra obtained from the Keck I Low Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (LRIS) and Keck II Deep Imaging Multi-Object Spectrograph (DEIMOS) have confirmed [O II]λ3727 emission in narrowband-selected cluster [O II] candidates at a ≈ 85% success rate for faint ...

Abstract Triangulum (M33) is a low-mass, relatively undisturbed spiral galaxy that offers new regime in which to test models of dynamical heating. In spite its proximity, M33's heating history has not yet been well-constrained. this work, we present the TREX Survey, largest stellar spectroscopic survey across disk M33. We kinematics as function age study past and ongoing measure line-of-sight v...

We present the results of a panoramic (15 Mpc scale) survey of the Cl 0016+16 (z = 0.55) supercluster using Spitzer Space Telescope Multiband Infrared Photometer (MIPS) 24-μm and Galaxy Evolution Explorer near-ultraviolet (2500 Å; NUV) imaging. The supercluster regions probed are characterized by several dense nodes connected by a pronounced intermediatedensity filamentary structure. We have st...

It has been known for some time that rotating bars in galaxies slow due to dynamical friction against the halo. However, recent attempts to use this process to place constraints on the dark matter density in galaxies and possibly also to drive dark matter out of the center have been challenged. This paper uses simplified numerical experiments to clarify several aspects of the friction mechanism...

Covid-19 pandemic has brought public attention to digital methods of modeling contagion, which have been used not only predict the future infection, but also assess its scope impact on population and chances for achieving herd immunity. As a result new outbreak narratives come into being in algorithmic data processing gains agency shaping dynamics contagion. His unprecedented reliance tools dec...

It is currently impossible to determine the abundances and ages of the stellar populations of distant, dense stellar systems star by star. Therefore, methods to analyze the composite light of stellar systems are required. I review the modelling and analysis of integrated spectra of the stellar populations of individual globular clusters, globular cluster systems, early-type galaxies, and the bu...

We present Australia Telescope Compact Array mosaic H I imaging of the Local Group dwarf irregular galaxy WLM. We find an integrated flux of 149 Jy km s and a total H I mass of (3.2±0.3)×10 M⊙. The major axis of the H I is aligned with the stellar component of the galaxy. The overall H I distribution is relatively smooth at our resolution and has a double peaked central core. One of these peaks...

We have obtained U-band polarimetry of the spatially extended, blue optical continuum associated with the FR I radio source PKS 2322−122. PKS 2322−122 is located in the Abell 2597 cluster central galaxy. We find a three sigma upper limit to the degree of polarization of the optical continuum of less than 6%. The accuracy of the measurement is limited primarily by our ability to measure the amou...

The edge-on, nearby spiral galaxy NGC 5907 has long been used as the prototype of a “noninteracting” warped galaxy. We report here the discovery of two interactions with companion dwarf galaxies that substantially change this picture. First, a faint ring structure is discovered around this galaxy that is likely due to the tidal disruption of a companion dwarf spheroidal galaxy. The ring is elli...
