This paper develops a computational model for nonlinear bending analysis of functionally graded (FG) plates using a four-node quadrilateral element SQ4T within the context of the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT). In particular, the construction of the nonlinear geometric equations are based on Total Lagrangian approach in which the motion at the present state compared with the initia...

Buckling analysis of a functionally graded (FG) nanobeam resting on two-parameter elastic foundation is presented based on third-order shear deformation beam theory (TOSDBT). The in-plane displacement of TOSDBT has parabolic variation through the beam thickness. Also, TOSDBT accounts for shear deformation effect and verifies stress-free boundary conditions on upper and lower faces of FG nanobea...

In this study, shear and peel stress distributions in the viscoelastic adhesive layer of a single-lap joint (SLJ) with functionally graded (FG) adherends are investigated. The study focuses on the effect of different adherend profiles and material composition on the time-dependent stress concentration/distribution in balanced and unbalanced SLJs. For this purpose, the Reddy model is applied to ...

Left ventricular (LV) epicardial pacing acutely reduces wall thickening at the pacing site. Because LV epicardial pacing also reduces transverse shear deformation, which is related to myocardial sheet shear, we hypothesized that impaired end-systolic wall thickening at the pacing site is due to reduction in myocardial sheet shear deformation, resulting in a reduced contribution of sheet shear t...

Displacement–length data from faults, joints, veins, igneous dikes, shear deformation bands, and compaction bands define two groups. The first group, having a power-law scaling relation with a slope of n1⁄4 1 and therefore a linear dependence of maximum displacement and discontinuity length (Dmax1⁄4 gL), comprises faults and shear (non-compactional or non-dilational) deformation bands. These sh...

Deflection analysis of a simply supported microbeam subjected to a concentrated load at the middle is investigated on the basis of a shear deformable beam theory and non-classical theory. Effects of shear deformation and small size are taken into consideration by hyperbolic shear deformable beam theory and modified strain gradient theory, respectively. The governing differential equations and c...

in this paper, the finite element analysis of stability problem of vehicle composite drive shafts subjected to torsional loading is studied. first, using the minimum total potential energy principle, the governing equations are derived and then they are solved by finite element method. the initial geometrical imperfection which is usually in the form of radial displacement, is taken into consid...

In this paper the vibration of a spinning cylindrical shell made of functional graded material is investigated. After a brief introduction of FG materials, by employing higher order theory for shell deformation, constitutive relationships are derived. Next, governing differential equation of spinning cylindrical shell is obtained through utilizing energy method and Hamilton’s principle. Making ...

The collocation method with multiquadrics basis functions and a first-order shear deformation theory are used to find natural flexural frequencies of a square plate with various material symmetries and subjected to different boundary conditions. Computed results are found to agree well with the literature values obtained by the solution of the three-dimensional elasticity equations using the fi...

The cross-stream migration of a deformable drop in a unidirectional shear flow of a second-order fluid is considered. Expressions for the particle velocity due to the separate effects of deformation and viscoelastic rheology are obtained. The direction and magnitude of migration are calculated for the particular cases of Poiseuille flow and simple shear flow and compared with experimental data.
