Peer-to-peer file sharing communities present a paradox for standard public goods theory, which predicts that free-riding should preclude the success of the community. We present a model in which users choose their level of sharing, downloading, and listening in the presence of sharing costs and endogenous downloading costs. In our model, sharing emerges endogenously, largely as a byproduct of ...

We demonstrate a tool for publishing and navigating linked data over the highly dynamic infrastructure of a P2P filesharing network. Our links are based on a URI scheme which allows unambiguous designation of replicated data items, regardless of their location in the network. In a true decentralized P2P spirit, users publish and distribute the links just like other data items.

Nowadays Peer-to-Peer (P2P) systems became an important part of Internet, millions of users have been attracted to use their structures and services. The popularity of Peer-to-Peer systems speed up academic research joining researchers from systems, networking and theory. The most popular P2P applications support file-sharing and content distribution, new applications are emerging in different ...

Peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing networks continue to rank as some of the most popular Internet applications in use. Their ability to pool the resources of thousands or millions of users makes them extremely attractive for a number of uses. However this convenient and rapid accessibility to files is not without its dangers. In particular, users that accidently or unwittingly share private files ...

At present, most peer-to-peer file sharing systems provide file-mark-based searching function. In the paper, we offer a file recommendation system based on pure peer-to-peer system, use the TOPK method to find similar interest peers in a way to realize the interest-based self-adaptive adjustment of network topology; and exploits the recommendation information between users with similar interest...

Music industry is “facing the music” now. Big stakeholders try very hard to maintain their positions while other players see opportunities in the advent of peer-to-peer networks. Music, as a kind of representative information good, deserves its economic properties to be examined and made explicit. Using the familiar Hotelling (1929) model of product differentiation, I show that the current musi...

Peer-to-Peer (P2P) File sharing Applications are responsible for a large amount of the (illegal) distribution of media content which systematically causes copyright infringements. In order to estimate a possible economical influence, it seems to be feasible to analyse the content of those systems. Firstly, the paper on hand describes theoretical P2P architectures in order to shed light on the p...

In this paper we study the population dynamics and resource usage optimization of a P2P file sharing system, where the availability of the requested file is not guaranteed. We study the system first by a deterministic fluid model and then by a more detailed Markov chain analysis that allows estimating the life time of the system. In addition, the underlying topology of the network is modelled b...

In this paper, we present the design, implementation, and evaluation of iPlane, a scalable service providing accurate predictions of Internet path performance for emerging overlay services. Unlike the more common black box latency prediction techniques in use today, iPlane adopts a structural approach and predicts end-to-end path performance by composing the performance of measured segments of ...

We propose a source peer selection algorithm which efficiently chooses peers as sources from a set of peers having the requested file in a hybrid P2P file sharing system. Our proposed algorithm considers the energy factors as well as the communication issues and the peers’ contribution to the file sharing system. The core idea of our algorithm is to minimize the workload of the wireless peers, ...
