As modern fluid power systems become increasingly complex and diverse, there is a growing need for formal systems engineering processes to aid in the design of such systems. In this paper, we introduce a modelbased systems engineering (MBSE) approach for the design of efficient fluid power systems. In this approach, the systems engineering process is supported with a variety of formal models wh...

Wolf is a “push-button” model checker for concurrent C programs developed in IBM Haifa. It automatically generates both the model and the specification directly from the C code. Currently, Wolf uses BDD-based symbolic methods integrated with a guided search framework. According to our experiments, these methods complement explicit exploration methods of software model checking.

The latest IBM zSeriest processor, the IBM System z10e processor, provides hardware support for the decimal floating-point (DFP) facility that was introduced on the IBM System z9t processor. The z9t processor implements the facility with a mixture of low-level software and hardware assists. Recently, the IBM POWER6e processor-based System pe 570 server introduced a hardware implementation of th...

We study a model of primacy effect on individual's attitude. Typically, when receiving a strong negative feature first, the individual keeps a negative attitude whatever the number of moderate positive features it receives afterwards. We consider a population of individuals, which receive the features from a media, and communicate with each other. We observe that interactions favour the primacy...

We present a simple log-linear reparameterization of IBM Model 2 that overcomes problems arising from Model 1’s strong assumptions and Model 2’s overparameterization. Efficient inference, likelihood evaluation, and parameter estimation algorithms are provided. Training the model is consistently ten times faster than Model 4. On three large-scale translation tasks, systems built using our alignm...
