This report presents an overview of the enteric methane production in cattle. The possibilities are discussed to influence methane production by feeding measures and the use of feed additives, and by management measures. The possibilities are discussed against the background of Dutch cattle husbandry and points for attention and priorities for future research have been formulated.
Recent and ongoing developments in the area of food biotechnology could help us meet at least some of these challenges: Among many other topics, current efforts include the development of plants having an enhanced nutritional value or the design and construction of microbial strains for the environmental-friendly production of food and feed additives, such as flavors, colorants, amino acids and...
Background & Aim: Feed additives have been widely used to stimulate appetite, improve growth performance and immune system function in livestock nutrition. For many years antibiotics have been used in livestock production to improve growth performance. Following the ban on the use of antibiotic growth promoters in animal feeds in European Union and increasing demand for organic...
An experiment with 192 caged ISA Brown laying hens, fed a diet containing a high level of corn distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS), was conducted to determine the influence of selected feed additives on biomechanical and geometrical indices of tibia and femur bones. At 26 weeks of age hens were randomly assigned to 8 treatments with 12 replicates (cages of two hens). To week 55, hens w...
Comparison of the Effects Antibiotic Alternative Feed Additives on Prevention Subclinical Necrotic Enteritis in Broilers
this study was conducted to evaluate the share of cost factors affecting on final cost of broiler live weight per kilogram in tehran province. data were collected through questionnaires. farms were divided to three cost ranges: less than 35,000, between 35,000 to 40,000, and over 40000 rails based on production cost per kg of live weight. in this study, water and additives, staff, vaccines, tra...
Thermostable phytases, which are active over broad pH ranges, may be useful as feed additives, since they can resist the temperatures used in the feed-pelleting process. We designed new beta-propeller phytases, using a structure-guided consensus approach, from a set of amino acid sequences from Bacillus phytases and engineered Pichia pastoris strains to overproduce the enzymes. The recombinant ...
The emergence and the spread of resistance to antimicrobials in bacteria pose a threat to human and animal health and present a major financial cost. In an effort to decrease the development of resistance various actions have been taken at Community level, including the removal of all antibiotics used for growth promotion purposes from animal feed in 2006. With this objective, the Scientific Co...
In recent years, there has been a growing appreciation on the relevance of gastrointestinal microflora in both ruminants and non-ruminants owing to revelation of their role in several physiological functions including digestion, nutrient utilization, pathogen exclusion, gastrointestinal development, immunity system, gut gene expression and quality of animal products. The ban imposed on the use ...
