Submit Manuscript | http://medcraveonline.com Introduction Ewing sarcoma is a bone tumor that has a predilection for long bones in teenagers. It accounts to approximately 6–10 % of all primary bone tumors in children; however, it seldom occurs outside of the bone, and very rarely in the epidural space [1]. Ewing sarcoma is composed of uncharacterized mesenchymal cells. The most common sites are...

BACKGROUND The prognosis for patients with nonpulmonary metastatic Ewing sarcoma remains poor with survival in the order of 15-20%. The need to introduce effective new agents into clinical practice is clear. Based on a preclinical rationale of responses in xenografts and backed by a phase I study in children, the Euro-E.W.I.N.G consortium planned a phase II window study of irinotecan in newly d...

The identification of the non-random chromosome rearrangements between the EWS gene on chromosome 22q12 and members of the ETS gene family in Ewing's sarcoma, peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumour, Askin tumour, and neuroepithelioma has been a key advance in understanding their common histogenesis and defining the Ewing's sarcoma family of tumours (ESFT). In addition to improvements in di...

Extraskeletal Ewing sarcoma (EES) is an aggressive malignancy with low incidence that occurs in the soft tissues of the lower extremities, paravertebral tissues, and chest wall. Few EES cases in the head and neck region have been reported. In this paper, we presented a case of EES that occurred in the olfactory sulcus with similar presentation as olfactory neuroblastoma. To our knowledge, this ...

The disappointingly low survival rate observed in Ewing's sarcoma (ES)/peripheral neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) despite the adoption of aggressive multimodal treatments prompted us to study the existence of autocrine circuits to be used as innovative therapeutic targets. Of the several circuits analyzed, only the insulin-like growth factor receptor (IGF-IR)-mediated loop was found to be constant...

Ewing sarcoma of bone is classically a permeative lesion in the diaphysis of long bones in children. While they occur primarily in children and adolescents, they can be seen in young adults in their 20s, but these are typically seen in flat bones. The permeative nature of the lesion can elicit new bone formation creating a partially sclerotic appearance, cortical expansion presenting as a "Codm...

Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is the second most common malignant bone tumor in children and young adults. ES also occurs as a primary soft tissue neoplasm without involvement of bone. We report the second case of extraosseous (EO) ES emerging from the omentum and a review of the relevant literature. EO ES should be included in the differential diagnosis of soft tissue neoplasms in the abdomen.

Ewing sarcoma of the abdomen is a rare entity in pediatric oncology and represents a technical challenge both for surgeons and radiation oncologists. We document the case of a young female patient with primary disseminated, intraperitoneal Ewing sarcoma who after an excellent response to chemotherapy received preoperative whole abdominal-pelvic radiotherapy with good tolerance.

Ewing's sarcoma usually arises from skeletal bone, but rarely may have an extraskeletal origin. However, Ewing's sarcoma that originates around the spinal column, especially, the intradural extramedullary type is extremely rare. We report a rare case of primary intraspinal extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma.
