We consider a natural generalization of Borell’s isoperimetric inequality for Gaussian space for multiple sets of unequal measures. We show that this conjecture is false. The argument combines the first variation with a simple analyticity argument, the latter being a new ingredient. (joint work with Elchanan Mossel and Joe Neeman [7])

To develop the usefulness of plants as bioindicators requires an appropriate selection of plant species which entail an utmost importance for a particular situation. In the present study a periodic evaluation of air pollution tolerance index [APTI] of selected tree species such as Polyalthia longifolia, (Sonner) Thw., Alstonia scholaris, R. Br., Mangifera indica, L., and shrubs Clerodendron inf...

The evolution of increased competitive ability (EICA) hypothesis and the novel weapons hypothesis (NWH) are two non-mutually exclusive mechanisms for exotic plant invasions, but few studies have simultaneously tested these hypotheses. Here we aimed to integrate them in the context of Chromolaena odorata invasion. We conducted two common garden experiments in order to test the EICA hypothesis, a...

This chapter reviews the quickly growing literature that builds on heterogeneous beliefs, a widely observed attribute of individuals, to explain bubbles, crises, and endogenous risk in financial markets. * This chapter is prepared for Handbook for Systemic Risk edited by Jean-Pierre Fouque and Joe Langsam. (‒)-Encecanescin (1) has been isolated from the leaves of Eupatorium aschembornianum. Two conformers are present in the crystal structure as a result of molecular disorder. The structure of 1 was established by 1H- and 13C-NMR spectroscopy in CDCl3 solution using 2D NMR techniques (gHSQC, gHMBC and NOESY). A Monte Carlo random search using molecular mechanics followed by the geometry optimizati...

The notion of a harmonic spectrum in stable homotopy theory was introduced by the second author in [Rav84]. Roughly speaking, a spectrum is harmonic if its homotopy is computable with the chromatic spectral sequence. It was shown in [Rav84, Theorem 4.4] that a large class of connective spectra (including all finite spectra) are harmonic. On the other hand, the EilenbergMacLane spectrum for a to...

BACKGROUND Plants have long been investigated as a source of antibiotics and other bioactives for the treatment of human disease. New Zealand contains a diverse and unique flora, however, few of its endemic plants have been used to treat tuberculosis. One plant, Laurelia novae-zelandiae, was reportedly used by indigenous Maori for the treatment of tubercular lesions. METHODS Laurelia novae-ze...
