BACKGROUND A variety of laser systems have recently become available that allow for selective dermal remodeling without disruption of the epidermal surface. Modest clinical improvement in mild to moderate photoinduced facial rhytides with minimal morbidity is typical of these nonablative lasers, providing a significant advantage over traditional ablative laser systems. OBJECTIVE To determine ...

BACKGROUND Fractional non-ablative lasers keep the epidermis intact, while fractional ablative lasers remove it, making them theoretically more effective. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the clinical and histological alterations induced by fractional photothermolysis for treating photoaging, comparing the possible equivalence of multiple sessions of 1540nm Erbium, to one session of 2940nm Erbium. ME...

The scope of this paper is to analyze the performance of augmented gain EDFA systems using Single and Multi-wavelength Input sources. The Performance of an Optical Communication system can be improved by the use of EDFAs as an Optical Amplifier. Erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is an important element in DWDM networks. We can achieve a flat gain spectrum by modeling the dynamic characteristi...

We investigate sensitization efficiency of near-infrared emission and population saturation of trivalent erbium in erbium-quinolinolato complexes photoexcited into the absorption band of the organic sensitizer. At low-excitation levels, we find high (∼80%) sensitization efficiencies. We observe excited-state population saturation at inversion threshold under subnanosecondpumping at the level of...

The transition rate of the stimulated emission at the higher energy levels of the excited states in a silica-based erbium-doped fiber can be enhanced by introducing fundamental-mode cutoff filtering mechanism. The electrons excited by optical pumping can more occupy the higher energy levels of the excited states when the transition rate for the lower energy levels (longer wavelengths) of the ex...

PURPOSE To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of a novel nonablative 1,550 nm erbium-doped fiber laser in the treatment of facial and non-facial photodamaged skin. METHODS 50 patients with mild to moderate cutaneous photodamage, rhytides, and dyspigmentation received 3 successive treatments at 3-4 week intervals with a 1,550 nm erbium-doped fiber laser (Fraxel, Reliant Technologies Inc., S...

The Hubbard model underlies our understanding of strongly correlated materials. Whereas its standard form only comprises interactions between particles at the same lattice site, extending it to encompass long-range interactions is predicted to profoundly alter the quantum behavior of the system. We realize the extended Bose-Hubbard model for an ultracold gas of strongly magnetic erbium atoms in...

The single-mode linewidth of an erbium-doped, single-frequency, fiber ring laser has been measured by using a newly developed loss-compensated delayed self-heterodyne interferometer that has a resolution of less than 600 Hz. The natural linewidth is determined to have an upper bound of less than 2 kHz. In addition, frequency jitter was found to be dominant over the natural mately 4 kHz.

The application of GRID (Gamma Ray Induced Doppler broadening) spectroscopy to the localization of foreign atoms in single crystals is demonstrated on erbium in YAP. By the investigation of the Doppler broadened secondary γ line for two crystalline directions, the Er was determined to be localized on the Y site. Conditions for the nuclear parameters of the impurity atoms used for the applicatio...
