Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion(ACDF) is a surgical treatment for cervical radiculopathy and myelopathy. Though this is a common surgery, spinal epidural hematomas occur rarely and an immediate treatment decision and surgical decompression are required in this situation. In this report, we discuss the proper treatment of spinal epidural hematoma after ACDF.
STUDY DESIGN Case report. OBJECTIVE To report an extremely rare case of stroke-mimicking, cervical spontaneous epidural hematoma (SEH) treated with tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) for hemiparesis followed by emergency cervical decompression. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Although hemiparesis caused by cervical SEH is a relatively uncommon symptom compared with tetraparesis, such cases were ...
To clinically and radiologically report a traumatic spinal epidural hematoma (SEH) that completely resolved, without surgical treatment. A 17-year-old woman presented with back pain, lower motor weakness, and sensory change after trauma to the lower back area. Neurologic examination revealed paraparesis (grade 3/5) and radiating pain in both legs at the L5 dermatome. Magnetic resonance imaging ...
BACKGROUND The natural history of traumatic aneurysms of the middle meningeal artery (MMA) is not well known, but patients with these lesions are more likely to have delayed bleeds. In this paper, we described a series of patients with epidural hematoma who underwent angiotomography (CTA) for MMA vascular lesion diagnosis. METHODS Eleven patients admitted to our emergency unit with small acut...
BACKGROUND Spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma is a relatively rare but potentially disabling disease. Prompt timely surgical management may promote recovery even in severe cases. CASE PRESENTATION We report a 34-year-old man with a 2-hour history of sudden severe back pain, followed by weakness and numbness over the bilateral lower limbs, progressing to intense paraparesis and anesthesia. A...
Study Design Case report. Objective To describe a patient with a recurrent spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma (SSEH) during pregnancy that had spontaneous remission. Methods A 27-year-old primigravida at 37 weeks' gestation suddenly felt a strong left shoulder pain without any trauma. She had a history of fenestration for a spontaneous cervical hematoma when she was 18 years old. An emergency...
Background Subdural hematoma (SDH) after accidental dural puncture (ADP) is rare but may be lethal. We experienced a patient who developed SDH after combined spinal and epidural anesthesia without a headache. Case presentation A 41-year-old parturient female with an unruptured cerebral aneurysm, was scheduled to undergo elective cesarean delivery. Cerebrospinal fluid leakage was identified du...
Even if the visual impression of the photographic density of the brain in head CT images is shown as physically the same, it is known that optical illusions of lightness perception (assimilation, contrast, picture frame effect, etc.) occur and that practical density can be observed psychologically differently, according to differences in the color of the skull and background, and differences in...
