The prevalence of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) is set to stabilize in Western Europe and North America, as opposed to its increasing trend in developing countries in Asia. The epidemiology of IBDs in areas where the incidence and prevalence are relatively low provides an opportunity for researchers to determine the unknown aspects of them. In this review article, the PubMed and MEDLINE da...

this paper is concerned with global analysis of a delay sveir epidemiological model in a population of varying size. by using lyapunov stability method and lasalle’s invariance principle for delay systems, we prove that when there is no endemic equilibrium, the disease free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable, otherwise the endemic equilibrium is globally stable.

In this article we introduce and study the concept of characteristic degree of a subgroup in a finite group. We define the characteristic degree of a subgroup H in a finite group G as the ratio of the number of all pairs (h,α) ∈ H×Aut(G) such that h^α∈H, by the order of H × Aut(G), where Aut(G) is the automorphisms group of G. This quantity measures the probability that H can be characteristic ...

BACKGROUND A short screening for social anxiety disorder is useful in clinical and epidemiological contexts. However, the German version of the short form of the Social Phobia Inventory (mini-SPIN) has not been evaluated yet. Therefore, our aim was to determine reliability, validity and population based norms of the German mini-SPIN. METHODS The mini-SPIN was evaluated in a clinical (N = 1254...

BACKGROUND Patients with diabetic neuropathy (DPN) and fibromyalgia differ substantially in pathogenetic factors and the spatial distribution of the perceived pain. We questioned whether, despite these obvious differences, similar abnormal sensory complaints and pain qualities exist in both entities. We hypothesized that similar sensory symptoms might be associated with similar mechanisms of pa...

With great interest we read the article by Kelly et al. on the measurement of physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior (SB) (Kelly P et al. Int J Behav Nutr Phys Act 13:(1) 32, 2016). We appreciate the invitation of the authors to provide feedback on their ideas and we take this opportunity to contribute to the discussion. Our main proposition is that this field can learn much from the fie...

INTRODUCTION Despite the widespread use of deprivation indices in public health, they are rarely explicitly or extensively validated, owing to the complex nature of the exercise. METHODS Based on the proposals of British researchers, we sought to validate Quebec's material and social deprivation index using criteria of validity (content, criterion and construct validity), reliability and resp...

abstract        typing of bacteria is an important part of epidemiological studies on nosocomial infections. bacterial identification methods have dramatically improved in recent years, which is mainly due to advancements in the field of molecular biotechnology. in many cases, molecular techniques have replaced phenotypic typing methods. currently, a wide range of bacterial typing techniques is...
