Extracting the unique information on ultradense nuclear matter from the gravitational waves emitted by merging neutron-star binaries requires robust theoretical models of the signal. We develop a novel effective-one-body waveform model that includes, for the first time, dynamic (instead of only adiabatic) tides of the neutron star as well as the merger signal for neutron-star-black-hole binarie...
In this paper we compute the number of spanning trees of a specific family of graphs using techniques from linear algebra and matrix theory. More specifically, we consider the graphs that result from a complete graph K, after removing a set of edges that spans a multi-star graph K,,, (al, ~2, . , a,). We derive closed formulas for the number of spanning trees in the cases of double-star (m = 2)...
We suggest that a neutron star with a strong magnetic field, spiraling into the envelope of a companion star, can generate a “companion induced SN-like off-center explosion”. The strongly magnetized neutron star (“magnetar”) is born in a supernova explosion before entering into an expanding envelope of a supergiant companion. If the neutron star collapses into a black hole via the hypercritical...
HD 59435 is a double-lined spectroscopic binary, one component of which is a magnetic Ap star and the other a G8 or K0 giant (Wade et al. 1996). Both components are very slowly rotating, and the Ap star exhibits spectral lines resolved into their magneti cally-split components. Herein we report additional measurements of the mean magnetic field modulus of the Ap star, measurements of the radial...
Let G = (V,E) be a simple connected graph. The eccentric-distance sum of G is defined as ξ(G) = ∑ {u,v}⊆V (G) [e(u) + e(v)]d(u, v), where e(u) is the eccentricity of the vertex u in G and d(u, v) is the distance between u and v. In this paper, we establish formulae to calculate the eccentric-distance sum for some graphs, namely wheel, star, broom, lollipop, double star, friendship, multi-star g...
The luminous blue variable η Carinae is almost certainly a double star: a hot secondary in an eccentric orbit around a massive primary. Radio observations with the Australia Telescope Compact Array at a wavelength of 3 cm, covering the period from 1992 to 2002, suggest that at the time of last periastron, 1998.0, material was tidally lifted from the primary star into its equatorial disc.
