感覚的消臭効果を測定する方法として，既往の臭気強度法注1）よりも客観性に優れていると考えられた認知臭気濃度法注2）が提案されている．本研究では，認知臭気濃度法により複数の消臭剤の消臭能力を比較確認後，臭気強度法との定量的な比較を行った．その結果，認知臭気濃度法では，芳香空気存在下でも，臭気強度0.5の差に相当する臭気指数差の違いが分かることが確認された．また，臭気強度法では消臭効果の差異を示すことができなかった2芳香間の違いについて，認知臭気濃度法では有意な差が得られることも確認した．この2芳香間での消臭効果の差異は，一般消費者を用いた評価結果でも検証できた．
