Fibre metal laminates (FML) are hybrid materials perspective for wind-turbine, containers and marine objects, besides the aerospace industry. During manufacturing process some faults can occur be hazardous reliability of FML structures. One most critical defects kissing bonding due to their lack detectability strength compared traditional delamination defect. The quantitative explanation were u...

SUMMARY The use of composite laminates in complex structures has increased significantly. However, there are still some issues when considering their use, mainly related with machining, leading to some difficulties and lack of acceptance. In this work, a methodology to evaluate drill geometry and feed rate based on thrust force and delamination extension is presented. INTRODUCTION For the past ...

The characteristics of carbon fibre reinforced plastics allow a very broad range of uses. Drilling is often necessary to assemble different components, but this can lead to various forms of damage, such as delamination which is the most severe. However, a reduced thrust force can decrease the risk of delamination. In this work, two variables of the drilling process were compared: tool material ...

The orientation dependence of Charpy toughness has been investigated in API-X80 linepipe steel. The occurrence of delamination and preferential alignment of {100} cleavage planes are found to contribute to the observed anisotropy in Charpy properties. Delamination is also related to the presence of banding in the hot–rolled alloy, and the additional plasticity it entails during the process of f...

We consider the buckle-driven delamination of biaxially compressed thin films. Telephone-cord-like patterns observed in experiments are explained as a result of the buckling behavior of the film. We perform a stability analysis of a straight blister. A mechanism of instability causing undulations in an advancing finger of delamination is pointed out, which we claim to be the basic phenomenon ex...

In this paper fracture surface of the fatigue delamination have been investigated. Fatigue delamination tests were performed on the crabon/epoxy under different stress ratios. Samples were cut from the DCB specimens and analyzed in Laser Confocal Scanning Microscope. The analysis was used to measure the roughness values. Different fractographic features observed in the study are discussed.

APPROACH: Buckling driven delamination is difficult to control in experiments. Thus, the present study relies on numerical simulations using geometrically nonlinear finite element analysis as well as the softening foundation model, which is an adaptation of Winkler elastic foundation. Delamination fracture is modeled by a cohesive crack model. Dimensionless variables are used to cover the entir...

Interpretation of image data sequences from active thermography systems has typically been based on analysis of temporal variations in the contrast of each pixel, relative to a real (or synthesized) defect-free reference point on the sample. Various schemes for quantitative analysis of contrast data have been developed, in which times for events such as maximum contrast or the maximum slope of ...
